WALKER, The Tnnsylvania State Fair THIMSDLY-27318D DAT One of the most beautiful days of the semen, in delightful contrast with the preceding two *daye, was Thursday. the •thLed.day of the Fair, and thousands upon - thousands Visited the Grounds. We believe we are moderate in sta ting the numbers tzpon the ',viand daring the day, at at least fifty•thousand...Home ides may be gained of the crowds in attendance ia the fact that very large trains were run to the grounds every fifteen minutes, and that every omnibus and almost every vehicle was pressed into ser vice. Then thousands went in private convey anoes. The procoedingeof the day commenced with a brilliant cavalcade of horses, led off by Young's Brats fiend in a fine' carriage drawn by four horses, belonging to Mr. flamed Ward, of Law renceville. The effect was fine. If we are per mitted, we suggest tbat the hour was entirely too early, and that the thousands who will be In attendance to-da.v will be under rainy ablige- ., ticom if the minicab of this morning bo post: paned untila later hour. We continue our de actiption of articles below: mamas/as' mut. We neglected in our tiotioeienierday, to elate that we saw the galvanized iron doves of Mr. L. 0. Cameron, in operation; bread, light cakes, and plea of an excellent quality, were speedily baked. In the bucket line, Meters. Coale & Watson, of New Brighton make a line display. Thelr buckets and • tube, 'Washing meditate, churns, sine wash boards, &c., tta, are all of an ex cellent quality and neat appearance, and at tracted the attention of many. To those who have not seen the stock, we recommend ,a special inspection. Mr. George Weyman, through Norman Lames, exhibited . & very attractive aeleation of cigars, foreign and home made. The display was worthy of the establiehmeot. Williams & Allen, at the left end of the Hall, make a fine display, as they usually do, of wares in their line. Among other things wo noticed their hot air gee stove ' a very elegant contd. ranee designed for heating email rooms. It is clean, neat and , economical. Chilton's Faro/wee —almost world renowned—arerepretented. George IL flabley exhibits near the left end of the Hall a beautiful variety of bird cages, and birds, in which line of business he Is extensive ty engaged. His establishment is on Federal street, Allegheny, 'near Lacook Street. He also exhibits a set of flea - planieh blocktln ware, tea and coffee setts:: The material Is excellent, mai is used ie addition for chafing and steak dilates. Payne, Simon & co., Liberty etreet, opposite Wood street, °wispy terve or four stalls at tbo left end of the Hill, with a very fine selection of ware. The Hickory, or wood-cooking, stove is a beautiful one la design and finish and attracted much attention. The Keystone, a coal cooking stove, the RubleonL,a coal parlor stove, the Ilion, a wood parlor stove, also attracted much atten tion. The Hitikory, to which we firet alluded, is made to accommodate extra long wood, anti is well calculated for Siootheniand Western use. The Keystor.e, a coal cookingstove, which has a wide reputation wherever coal Is used, appears to be one of the beet stoves we have seen. The Rubicon parlor stove is a model of beauty; the elegance of design, tarring amdform, style and proportion;being each as to commend it to every observer. We cannot say we re gret his absence es we learn from him that the demand for Ma machines is eo great he could not find time to prepare himself for this exhibi tion. His trade now reaches over 'mist extent of the West; wo congratulate him upon his Eno cosi and the piablic upon their appreciation of a valuable machine. ' Ballston's Washing Machine is a great enriosi- Ey. It is situated jest' an the right .of the loft wing of Mechanics' Hall. Ey this machine there ie no tearing of clothing, as it operates by press ing, and the clothes are dried by the same pro cess. We have no hesitation in pronouneing it a very valuable invention. It can bo worked byt dog power or by hand. The power attachment is very simple, and by it churning can be dolte by the same operation. We urge visitorli to Lear this machine in mind, and see Mr. H. operate it —go through the operation cf an actual wash ing. The proprietor will shortly manufacture thesescaehines at $lO each. ART/3TH lIALL. . . Visitors kept this Hall in the most crowded condition yesterday, nod it was with difficulty we found an opportunity to sufficiently admire sev eral of the oil paintings there exhibited. One, a portrait of a lady, her book and olio face to the spectator, executed by Feereter, is in our opinion, very beautiful. The coloring is fino, while the shading and the mechanical portion of the painting is equally good. The portrait of Rev. Cookman by Rhodes is very accurate, and a fine piece of work: Tho Patten portrait of Mr. Ogden, by his daughter, was mush admired. We observe a fine mezzotint of M'Clarg's cele brated early times pieces, representing an In dian attack upon white settlere, ohloh ‘ eur read .ere .are familiar with. We cannot enumerate all the good things which adorn this Hall, but must content ourselves with thisbriof allusion to them. 1101:11331OLD MODS LULL Mr. J. H. Mellor, of Wood et., the widely known agent of Chi okering's Pianos, occupies a large space, elegantly arranged, with a stook of pianos and melodeons. The unfavorable weather of the earlier part of the week prevented Mr. M. occupying his stall until yesterday, bat in compensation for the loss of time, the densest crowd we have had theraisfortune to Sod our. selves In, surrounded it. The Grand Piano, new scale, which is of rosewood, richly carved, at traoted the most attention. Its cost is $lOOO, and is No. 17,666 an Chickerings' list. There an two equare pianos,—one in the Louis Four. teenth style, $5OO, and the other plain at $375. Mr. M. exhibits also several melodeons from Mason & Haudin's factory, Boston, whioh are models of beauty. Mr. at. is very extensively engaged in this line of bnsiness,.and his cape. .rience offers_ great inducements to parobseers. H. We find that time begins to press us, and must therefore draw our cotters of the Fair to &close for to-day, but not without paying the tribute in print that the thousands did verbally, to the magnificent collection- of plants and flowers of lilesere. J. B. Begley b Co., Florists, East Liberty. They occupy nearly two - thirds of the Hall. We nofieed in particular a seedling Ver.- ' bens admitted to be the largest In cultivation, its diameter being one inch and a quarter. The collections of Fuchsias, Roses, Dahlias, Verbe nas, Bedding Plante, and Phloxes are very large, and reflect greet credit upon the exhibitors. In the centre of the Hall they have erected a beau tiful design, a temple sustained by seven pillars, in the centre of which the meet delicate plants are suspended. To close this notice wetney say that the exhibition of rare hothouse plants by Oboes gentlemen have been rarely excelled. We regret to say that the frost injured number of valuable plant" on Wednesday night. 1301DZET4 A little boy, whose name we did not learn, re siding in the upper part of Allegheny, had three Angara taken off while carelessly playing around a threshing machine.
