officers of the Kansas Ale Societies of New
York, Michigan, Pennsylvania • and Ohio, has
just been published here, asking a convention of
delegates from all the Aid Societies and ether
' organization friendly to enslaved and suffering
' Kansas, to meet at Cleveland, June 20th, to
adopt measures for the relief of immigrants and
for the preservation of law and order in the Te:.
ritory.
The Chicago Tribune boa advices brought
down by the steamer Fehr Star to St. Louis
yesterday.
The Free State town Ostawatoutie, was packed
at four o'clock, P. M., by 160 ruffians, Including
50 of Baford'e company. lioaseswereplander•
ed indiscriminately; several were fired but ex
tinguished. A number of horaoa wore stolen,
including those belonging to the mail stages. -
The Sree State men were expecting an attack
at another plane. Seymour was marching to
Ossawatomle.
latest accounts state a probability thatthe
Free State men gave battle before the arrival of
the troops.
The small Free State town of Palmyra, was
also destroyed. Sumner road Shannon's procla
mation to Whitfield's army previous to ordering
them to leave the territory. The army returned
without Whitfield. There was a general meeting
of the proralavery companies. They threatened
to exterminate Shannon, Sumner and the troops.
Shannon fled the territory and look refuge in the
Free State Hotel, at Banns city, Intending to
take the first eteamer to St. Louis. He was
finally prevailed on to return to Leavenworth
The pro-elavory force in the territory le between
400 and 600. It was considered probable that a
battle would tike piece on Tuesday between this
force and the United States troops or the Free
State men.

Convention, on the proposed Republican fusion,
have agreed to report in favor of an informal
ballot being taken to expresa the feellog of the
convention.• The consultation among delegates

to continue the session until the 17th, and then
to nominate Fremont simultaneously with the
Philadelphia Convention.

Naw Year, June 14.—The Anti-Fillmore
American Convention tit-day asoepted the propo
sition of the Republican Committee for a fusion
and passed a series of Resolutions looking to
that, result. One of the resolutions proposes
that the Convention shall nominate a candidate
and also appoint a Chromittee to confer with the
nominee and afterwards with the Republican
Convention. The plan as understood by out
siders Is to nominate George Low who will de
oline in favor of the nominee, of the Philadelphia
Convention to meet oe the 17th inst. Mr. Law
made a speech to the Convention advocating the
restoration of the Missouri compromise a Rail
road to the Nettle Coast.
LAIIICMTLE, June l3.—The committee ay
pointed by the Cincinnati Convention to notify
Mr. Buchanan of his neminatlon, arrived this
morning in the early train, and proceedid
immediately to Wheatland, where were also as
sembled several gentlemen from this city and
State, among whom were Ex-Governor Porter,
of Harrisburg, Hen. 11. S. Magraw, State Trea
surer, and others.
The gcntlemen of the committee present,
were General Ward, of Georgia, Governor
Brown of Mississippi, Mr. Forsythe, of Mis
souri, Mr. Preston, of Kentucky, Mr. Hibbard,
of New Hampshire, Mr. Manning of Booth
Carolina, and Gm Lawrence of Rhode bland.
On reaching Wheatland they were cordially
greeted by Mr: Buchanan. General Ward, their
President, then presented Mr. Buchanan a let
ter Informing him of his nomination, accom
panied with a few appropriate remarks, which
were replied to in a happy manner by Mx. Bu
chanan, who informed the committee that •
more full reply would be given them in writing.
The company, consisting of about fifteen per
eons, then set down to %sumptuous dinner pre
pared for the occasion, and the meeting was
continued till • late hour.
Sr. Lotus, June 14.—A letter to the Democrat
dated Lawrence Bth says: the report that Robin
eon had been hung by the mob is =acne; Rob
boson, Bryson, Smith, Deltsler, and Jenkins are
still confined at Lecompton guarded by U. S.
Dragoons. Several ladies from Lawrenoe have
been permitted to visit them, but gentlemen are
not allowed the privilege. The report mays that
2 pro-slavery men had been kited and 'several
wounded in a battle at Franklin; none were
killed or wounded among the Free Boilers. At
Palmyra 5 pro-slavery men were killed and
several wounded; 8 free toilers were wounded
but 130120 killed. Several wagons on the way to
Lawrenoe had been stepped at Westport, Flo ,
searched and stripped of their contents by per
sons not citizen' of that town. A printieg press
was destroyed at atawatomie. It is reported
that the mails have been forcibly searched at
Franklin.
J. M. Bullard reported killed it alive, but
about $6OOO worth of klerehandieti, horses and
oxen have been taken from him by a party of
Free State men.

tween Justice Hornblower and Judge McLean.
Judge McLean eulogises the Ordinance of 1789
and expresses feelings of the deepest regret
and most painful apprellenelons for the safety of
our institutions to witness the growing indiffer
ence and hostility developed during the last few
lean towards the pringiplee of that measure of
Jefferson. Ho looke upon the present distracted
condition of Hatless as the fruit of that ill advis
ed and nelsolleviotre measure, the repeat of the
Missouri Compromise, and thinks Met the im•
mediate ElSliSSiCill of Kansas as a State, under
the Constitution already formal, would be a
measure of mound policy welt calculated to bring
peace to the country.

The whole number of votes being 122. Banks,
42; Fremont, 36; M'Lean, 19; Stockton 13; Gov.
Johnston, 7; Chase, 6. The Convention ad
journed to 4 o'clock.

when a second ballot was had, as follows; Banks,

Nsw YORK, Jane 16.—The trial of the negro
Wilson, for the murder of Captain Palmer, on
board the schooner Eudora Imogene, while lying
tit anchor near City Island, In Noy. last, at White
Plains, West. Chester county, terminated at one
o'clock this morning, when the jury found the
prisoner guilty of murder in the brat degree.
Wilson was sentenced by the Court to be execut
ed on tbo 26th day of July.
