the Dcanoerstie ticket, and Baird; Eyeter, Smith,
'1.117t4 Loands and Homer from the the Nether, and,
with the outside vote thus obtained, sleeted their
whole whet. By combining the votes of the
distinctive Whig candidates, Dusts, limper,
Stevenson, Carnahan, Pollock, Woods, Magill,
and Bihinds, and taking the average, we make
—the distinctive Whig vote 4888. The same yule
spilled to the distinotire Democratic candidates,
makes the.average Democratic rote 5111. And
applying the same rule to. Baird, Enter, Smith,
Loomis and Horner, the average vote is 6165.
Then are in this county, probably, twenty
• thousand voters. In 1852, the aggregate vote
for I.:melded was 18,047. The IL N. vote last
tali iras therefore less than one-third of the en
tire vote in the county, and if • there should be

vote they did last fag they must be defeated.

, ficences and from men outside of their orgatd

of the order is also infinitely superior to that of
the old.parties. And yet with all their machinery
and With their 84 candidates and their friends
at work, they could only poll about 2000 Totes,

ably quite as many as they can rely upon among
• absentees, and we have 4000 as the availa
ble strength of the Order.

be.indiced to . Tote their ticket, we believe we
have yielded more than they oaa realize :They
may havermore votes, but they must be made up
of outsiders.

and same of them men who were on the Demo
cratic ticket hat fall, we may fairly conclude
that a 'good many Democrats luive•joined the
Order since the list election. Dot we will sup
pose that the Democratic vote is about the same,
and we certainly know of nothing whatever that
should karma it one *Die. Then, how stands it?
Last fall / the vote for Governor was, say, 16,000
•
Suppose the Dem. poll this fall; 6000
Take available K. N. membership, 4000
Add outside votes to IL N.'a, say, 1000-10,000
Leaving in the county, of other voters, 6,000
If the rote should be as large as It wee kat
fill, and if the Democrats should hare the same
Tote and the N.'e poll 8000, atilt there are
enough left to sleet the Republican ticket.
Bat view it in smother light. Last year the
average Whig vote was 4888; or take Landes
rote, 4827. Where are all these Whigs now?
Elonteit them no doubt hare joined the R.N.Order.
But so far u we have any information, a good
many more have left it, or will do so this fall,
than have joined. The distinctive Whig vote in
the county at this time, if it can be rallied on our
tick% we believe is greater than it was last fall
—wrput it down at not lees than 6000. Add to
these the Frei Boilers - and anti-slavery Dromo
orsts—nearly all of whom were in the-K. N. Or
der, but hare left it, and we bare a number quite
sufficient to elect the Republican ticket ova both
the Democrata and K. N.'s.
Row the only question Is can these totes be
secured for the Republican ticket t Why not ?
Any candid man who RID examine the three Ra
tite moat mina that the Republican presents the
beet and most imitable men. There being no
'Whig ticket in the field, every old line Whig,
hoverer etrengly he may be attached to the old
Whig name, can Tote this ticket with much more
conabtancy than either of the others. The plat
form of the party, being excinsirely anti-slavery,
launottleetionable to the members of the old par
ties, and being the only one that boldly meets
the great question of the ago, affords an admits-
Age rallying ground for all the Mends of humani
ty and freedom Whip, Democrats and Free
Boners and Eno w Feints,' can all meet= equal
footing here. By,sleeting the-Republican ticket
we plisse good men in office, and express, In the
most emphatic terms, our hositlity to the en
crachmenta of the sbore-power. We say, there
fore to our Republican friends, go to work, and
make a vigorous effort. The aspect of things Is

friend, the er-editrees of the risimr, has been
very mach exercised about the authorship
of my former article. She thinks she has
found the culprit In the assistant editor of the
Gracile; and then, somewhat doubtful of ber
guess, alum libmithat if he will only acknowl
edge that he wrote that communication, she will
'hue no quarrel with him. Ido not know how
it itribeyou to town; but to • man living in the
country it would sum as if she wouldliave more
cams of quarrel with him in such an acknowl
edgement than in the abuses of it.
Mrs. a may Dam herself all farther trouble
in casting about for my identity. She cannot
bout me out; and It Is not material that either
she or the public should know who I am. I pre
sented, in my.former communication, an array
of facts which she min neither gainsay nor ex
plain away ; and those facts have left her, as 1
intended they should, entirely impotent In her
effort to betray the muse of freedom in the house
of its friends.
She did, indeed, strive to contradict one or
two of my statements, anduntared particularly
to question my relation of what took place In the
Free Soil Committee at Harrisburg in February,
1854, when the committee refused to keep her
bantling from the Imminent death banging over
It. But her fine allegations in connection with
that affair were found to be so wide of thetnark,
that she afterwards corrected them by substitu
ting another date and other facts; an illustra
tion of the amiable weakness that possesses her
of running two stridulate one and getting things
mixed up genially. She must have a woman's
privilege. I suppose, of speaking twice before
she Is fully understood.. -
