Our readers will join with us in regretting
deeply that Mr. Darsie felt ii his duty to decl i ne
the nomination for Senator. When hisname was

The Convention then, with the utmost unanimity,

testified its high regard for that estimable and

• Scared—To this end we will labor sasiduriali
to render inoperative and void, that pFTtion of
the Urine-Nebraska bill which abdisaa Roe.

Third—We will oppose by every lawful and
constitutional means the existence of slavery In
any national territory and the further hrtaea .
of slave states or slave territory in this 'ekes&

4. That the slavery question as now presented
being the predominant all-absorbing howl of the

speech, and free government, it is our duty to
forego all other lames, mrl present an unhroketi
point in defence of the vital interests at stake.

all and embracing no other Issue, fundakes the
only effectual rallying point for the people of
the North, and affords the only possible, oppor
