The following report of Rev. Mr. Nevin's re marks on Wan should have appeared yesterday: The Be,. J. Nevin said he' had been a member of the Convention :which had hdopted the basis ,f now before Synod. He adverted to some °ilea Ilona urged against the basis, and mated that the basis commended itself by its brevity, its ex plicitness, and, if agreed, it would be =Pi:suf . &lent for its purpose, and would greatly help the operations of the sessions 'of congregations in admitting members into the 'Church. He differed most decidedly with 'the opinion ecrpressed by several brethren that the agitation of the subject of Haien Ls disastrous in its infin ance-on the Church. Should we pass a resolu tion.against discrionsioie he feared the come glasnost and in/Mooed the resolves against the agitation of the shivery question, in the Balti more platform—Ns:ld the fact that the agitation et slavery - basins much more rampant, and souniof the political parties angered a procemet disintegration and absorbtioo, as the result of each resolutions. He was happy to find co goi tre). coocurrenee of opinion in favor of Union.— ' We all agree thst there is a real union of the Church of God which cannot be destroyed by all our seedarianism. The proposed basis waa no pet measure with him. ' if Synod should appoint a committee to bring ids minute on the subject, and if they cannot agree to recommend the adop tiOn of the basia,—ha did hope that they would Muskier the following proposition, namely: That _- - erithe ground or thentibstantial sameness of the Churches which have been in correspondence on the subject of Union in doctrine, worship, disci pline and government,- we 'recognize the reap ; reaction of felloweitip with the brethren of these Chttrches in the ordinances of religions worship. Theist wha favored union by confederation can not oppose such a resolution, and its adoption would be tbe proper foundation for a onion of cowperation which would gradually lead to or ganic Union. 1 ~; The report of the Comudttes on Presbyterial Reports was read and laid on the table.
