The "Republicans," or anti-elavery rain, allege that the Know Nothings have /sleeted a State ticket, headed by Jacob Brinkerhoff for Governor, which they itttend, if possible, to palm off on the Re- • publican State Convention that is to assemble on the 18th of July. The purpose of attempting to pack that Convention is openly charged upon ' them, andis only 'denied indirectly. The Ohio State Joariml, for instance, which is in the K. N. interest, thus explains the matter 41 understood by It "As we understand It, we go up to the Con vention on the 18th, not as 'Whigs—not as Dem ocrats par erceflrrax, nor as Independent Dem i °crate or Preesoilers, nor yet as K. Ns.—but as 8.LN18L10133. The delegates to this Convention will come fresh from the People, and may fairly be supposed to express the sentiments of the People,' This Is all very well, apparently; but it will not bias inspection. A man cannot be a "Republi can" and a K. N.. The Know Nothings comititnto a distinct political, party; and the "Republicans" another, quite as distinct. k men cannot be long to both at the some time. If he recognises allegiance to the one, he cannot be faithful to the other; and if he is an honest man he will not essay to force himself upon a party to which he cannot belong. The Know Nothings have their own separate political organization, their own peculiar instrumentalities, and they permit no out-sider - to come into their meeting& it will not do for them, therefore, to wear their own colors in private and don those of the °Republi cans" in public. The latter should be left to the fall enjoyment of the distinct privileges of, their own organisation; and it is now plain that if they are not so left, there will be a bolt sufficiently bugs to spoil all K. N. elieellietinnx that May be entertained. Two parties may co-operate, andAbis door is always open to those who think it wise to main tain separate organisations; bet cooperation is altogether different from this holding of member ship in two parties at once and claiming the right to control both. Tai Fcrrcaz or Paarxm.--The Newcastle Freeman, an ardent Fria 801 l paper, which has heretofore ebown a warm side to the Know flothinvt, begins to appreciate the true condition of things. As thaw -.lt did not require a prophet, nor the 'son of oprophet to see from the beginning, that sla very, the marplot of all orgsnisations, political and ecclesiastical, would • rend asunder the Snow Nothing party if it undertook in this re spect to walk in the footsteps of its illustrious predecessors. Performing the play of Hamlet with the fart of Hamlet omitted, would be con sistency itself when compared to • party calling itself "eimericem," yet ignoring the great trin chiles :which bare given the name of America all its glory among the nations of the earth.— After securing its erganisation, bad the Ameri can party given up the tom-foolery of secrecy, modified its policy of naturalisation in regard to Protestants; and above all *spewed the real American doctrine on the aubjeot of human bon dage, it might have taken a long less* of pollti aid life.- Bat we fear that like the old parties, it knew not the day of itstialtation, and is smit ten-with blindness. —The Noteholders and the Hankers, in expee tation of the National Convention which is soon to assemble, are beginiug_ their vocation of threatening, browbeating and Colon -swirl. On the contrary, the - party in Massachusetts, New Hampetdre - and Conneeticat seems to , be strongly anti-slavery and to haw no other idea than that -their policy will prevail in forming the-American Party. The time is near when the question will be settled. Should elotehold big policy press% a -disruption will inevitably follow. end the northern-sentiment will show itself in a new and victorious form.
