Patriot a detailed account of the unfortunate aocidentwhicb occurred at Meredith village on Tuesday morning. AbontBoo citizens were assembled in the town ball at the time, for the .purpose of voting, and wore proceeding with the ballot for a. moderator. The hall was so eon atructed that the front part wan even with the street, while the eastern end was raised upon brick and wood supports, about 18 feet above the level of the soil below. The part of the floor !fhb,' fell :moat, the eastern and of the hall, and comprised a space extending from within three feet of the moderator's desk, back about fourteen feet towards the centre of the hall; and upwards of thirty feet in width. The centre joist or beam fell ip first, and thus all who went through the I gap fell towards the centre and were piled up on top of. each other in one living mass. Several I persons who stood immediately in front of the I desk escaped from injury. One gentleman bal anced himself upon his heels for several seconda, and finally earbd himself from falling into the I chasm. The immediate cause of the disaster was the fact that the joist which pre way was rotten in- the.centre, and that the tenons of the arose joints had not-been inserted in their mortises more than one inch oa either side. The Patriot gives the following list of the Hoot beyond dope of raarerg.--Cieorge Clark, John 0. M. 'add, John Leavitt, Hiram Plum mer...l3. C. Tattle and Thomas Eastman. The Patriot also publishes a long lint el those who were alit fitly injured by the accident Two of- the ea who were dangerously hurt survived but afew hours.
