Pacts feoh tee British'Cessos. —Owing to the complicated nature of the facts elicited in the Census of Great Britain,- taken in the Exhi bition yearnf Idol, it has been found impossi ble to issuPthem in- a printed form, until within the last few weeks. From a cursory glance at'its mysterious pages, we have gleaned the following curious facts Londonexteuis over an area of -78,029 acres, oa the sides of the Thames, into Kent, Surrey and Middlesex, and the number of its ;nhabitahta, cooatantly increasing, -was 2,862,- 286 on the day that the census was taken. ’ * The people of England were r oa an average 163. yards ossunder in Idol, and 108 yards as- Bunder .in 185 L The mean distance apart of their houses was 362 yards in 3801, and only 262 yards lu 3861. What is the oldest age that is now attained ? The Census furnishes us Borne aid toward the proseretion of the inquiry, Which is certainly of do inconsiderable interest or importance. In Great Britain, more than half a million of the inhabitants (696,030) hare passed the barrier of score and ten;" more.than one hundred aed twenty-nino thousand the paalmUt'a-timitof fourscore years, and 100,000 the years which the last of Plato's climacteric square numbers expressed, jP. times .9 equals 81;) nearly ten thousand (0,847) bare lived ninety years or more; a band of 2jG3o aged pilgrims have been wan dering ninety-fire years and more on their an ended journey, .and 319 say that they bare wit nessed more ibid a hundred revolutions of the ■acaMa&. Jiaay instances, we may obserte. are cited of.mehlmog; in „the* ancient world more ’lhan n' hundred .years; and Lord Bacon, Jo bis History of Life and Death,- quotes a fact unques tioned, that a fetr y ears before bo wrote, a Mor riS'danco was performed, in 'Herefordshire, at Lho ; May ; games, by eight men, whose agesi:in . the aggregate, amounted to 800 years. No,popf uloos village inEnglapd Was then, It would seem, . without a man or woman of fourscore ycarSold. In the seventeenth century/ some time aftor Ba r Con wrote, two Englishmen are reported to'bare died at greater ages thon almost any of those 'which bate beenttitaiued ia other European na tions. According 4o documents printed in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, Thomas Parr tired 162 years and nino months; Henry Jenkins IG9 years. The eridenco in these extraordinary instances is, however, by no meaos cohclosive, as it evidently rests chiefly on .uncertain tradition, and on the ve l ? fallible memories of Illiterate: old men: for there Is no mention of.docuraentary eyidepco.in Parras case, and tho births, of both dato back to a period be fore tho Parish Registers, were instituted ; by Cromwell, in 1638. We need hardly say that the prolongation of the life of a peoplo must become an essential part of family, municipal and na tional policy^ In England, it seems that the twenty-tixlh year is the mean age at which men marry, and the twenty-fifth that at which women marry. ' The average age of the wife is about 40J years/ ofrthe husband 43 years; or the husband in Great Britain, on tho average, is years older than thhwifc.. The army and navy, had, on March 31,1851, exclusive of the Bast India Company’s array and navy, end of&cere of the staff of the army not serving with'their regiments, and militia; 178,-. 773'effective men, nftmelv 142,870 in the army, .35,903 in the navy; besides 83,797 non-effect™ mi half pay of pensions. .a The effective* of the army comprised i 6,693 offloors, 1d6,277 men; and the total of 142,870 were composed of Cavalry, 12,911 infantry, 115,- BG7; artillery, 12,000; engineer, 2,386: In the middle of 1861 there .were 5,610,777 men at the age of 20 and upwards, of whom 183,256 ‘belonged to the army an<T~riavy. The active eonseqdentlyv about 2 per cent'of the men of Great Britain, or. one in 47; or, if tho total population is taken,, , one in 168 will be found to have been engaged In tho army and na vy previously to the breaking out of the present -war is the East f' ; The number of men between tho ages of -15 and 46 is 4,601,900, one-tenth of whom would form an army of 480,100. One soldier to every kindred people is the entire population would supply 211,860 men.. Tho levy of onp in a Aim dred on 1 the population of the United Kingdom, would (rive about 277,000 men. 0r4,094,683 children of thoageof sto 15, bn)y 2,406,442 are returned aa scholars at home jud 705,409 are employed in eoaa 'extraneous employment aniTl l 3B3 1 782 are sim ply occupied as Children ht home. By the Eogtish Life Table it Is shown that the half of a generation of men of all ages pass es awaj’ in thirty years, and that more than ‘‘three'in,every four of their number die in half a I century. The average number of persons to a house in Great Britain, ot the census of 1851, was five and a half, the same as in 1831. Among tho p&sacugera who arrived her* by he steamship l/niotr on Saturday night, ‘war M. Victor Considerant, who comes to prepare for [he establishment in Texas of tho colon/ of Europeans which ho has for some time had in con* templation. We believe the funds of the Compa ny of which M. Considerant is the head, already amount to about - a million of dollars, and that some hundreds of French, Belgian and German agriculturists and mechanics may be expected just as soon as the needfnl arrangements are made- for the first estahlishmcht'of the colony, which it is expected will gradually incraaso to some thousands. , Precisely in what locality the Company havo bought lands we ar* not inform ed, bat U. Cantsgrel, their agent, has been in Texas for'some time oh that badness. The in vestment of to mach capital and the addition of so manjr Industrious and worthy people to the population, of the State .will be an event in her history. M. Considerant is known as leader, in £orope of that'dass «f Socialists who adopt the system of Fourier, and, we' believe proposes to introduce some associative features Into the management of this colony, such, for instance, 'as baying jail necessaries ..at wholesale and fur nishing them to individuals at coat, providing, medical attendance at tho public expense, main-* taining common schools, regular pnbllo amuse ments, and other things of that kind; bat we believe it is not proposed to attempt any appli cation of Fourier’s Industrial organisation 1 until a later poriod. M. Considerant la accompanied by the members of his family.— AT. T. Ihi. A'strict ' camp police is established, and prevents the accumulation of dirt, and rub bish. Between the tents innumerable 'baking - ovens are erected—some of stone, others portable —inwbichfreahbreadiabeiagcontinuailybaked, so that the French soldier is not obliged, like the English soldier, to content himself with biscuit, * which engenders scurvy. Under these circumstances there is much more, joviality in the French than in the English or .Turkish. camp. The men talk, tell tales, sing.and work merrily. The clothing of officers and men is os clean as if they, were sim ply doing hgrd garrison duty. The Zouaves amuse the camp atrnight by stealing out individ ually, climbing'the Russian outworks, and plant ing French flags upon them. We have already said so much respecting the English camps, that we shall only give the de ecripiion of ourfriendia a few words:—“On the whole, it Is the contrast of the French Camp— there are no roads, if we except one made re cently to convey the terrible mortars.' On all sides, between the tom tents, dead cattle, horses and oxen are rotting, and noone thinks iof re moving thepest-bringing carcases.'
