BASSWOOD PA23B--A copy of the Albany oozing Journal has been eent to no which is tilted on paper made from Basmood. The Paper is made from Pulp produced from isswood Shavings, of a peculiar form, thrown fby Mr. Bearislee's planing machine, which is been itaproved to produce this result- It intains no mixture of rags, or other material hatever, nor siting. It is from the pure wood .;one. The paper furnished us wan made at Sat •rlee's mill, Little Falls, under nnfavomble cir =stances. The supply of Pulp was 150 616/0 I.oat the mill had to be screed by hand instead of I y gunge pumps, the consequence of which was, • ich irregular feeding as to produce slightly ir rigator thickness of paper. The Paper has also i len used, with perfect success, by Mr. Gavit, r transferring fine line engravings—a remit hich cannot be attained by any other ordinary 31•11 paper. But Mr. B. is not restricted to Basswood. lit tsmade experiments which leave no doubt upon is Lind that paper of a texture even superior to tat which he has already produced from that .00d, can be produced from other native woods, ,and in equal aboudance. The .Pulp is manufactured very cheaply, and y a very simple procese,--known, of course to imself alone. It can be packed in bags or tales • compactly as cotton, and neat as readily to ay part of the country or world, and at rates ,bids (if it shall prove available) must ultimate drive Bags entirely out of the market. Thus far Mr. B. has only manufactured so meh Pulp as was items - mu for the prosecution f his experiments. But he purposes, as soon s arrangements can be perfected, to enter large into the manufacture of the article for mar .et. It can be used in any Paper Mill, furnished eady for the finishing engine, and capable of . reducing a weight of Paper equal to the weight the Pulp used. Consequently, in adopting it, .o new machinery will be required, but a great :mil of the most cumbersome now used, and much .f the most unpleasantpart of the work of mak : og paper from tags, May be dispensed with. This discovery, as timely as it is important, will prove of incalculable value to the world.— The necessity of some such substitute for the ar ticles hitherto used in the mandfacture of Paper, had become imperative. The demand has al ready outstripped the supply; and the most se rious difficulties were apprehendedis the future. If Mr. Beardslee has discovered the needed rib atitute, he will have done more forthe world than any living cotemporary. And that he has made this discovery, few acquainted with the qualities of good paper will doubt, with these crude speci mens of Basswood Paper before him.
