Citizen's Insurance Compy or rittsburgti For the same reasons that Rotnao Catholicism affiliates naturally with slavery, it also accords 'well with the rum traffic. This trade is mainly in the bands of foreign Roman Cr.holice. They are the deadliest enemies to the Maine Law.— Rum is a powerful handmaid to Jesuitism. Rum, Slavery and Jesuitism are a three fold score, so closely twined together that Le who tries to snap one of them asunder, must aim to break them all. Hence a party honeptly opposed to the scheme of the Jesuits, will he of necessity a thorough-going temperance and anti-slavery parry. But the Know Nothings are neither. This as sertion is abundantly established by tie New York Wection. - Pintos IL Ctsuic was the only radicarand reliable temperance and anti-shivery candidate before the people of that State. He was, moreover, Vern iu this country, nods mem ber of a Protestant Church ; and therefore, as Bitch, unobjectionable to Native Americana.— And yet the Know Nothings instead of suppert. ing him, and by joining their forces with his other friends giving him an election by a major ity that would have carried dismay into the camp of the rummies, the slavery propagandists, and the Jesuits, put up a, candidate or their own, who was neither a temperance nor an anti-slavery span; and this at the eminent risk of giving the State to SETNIOCII, rum, slavery and Je,lliti,ll3. That this catastrophe was escaped is in no de gree awing to the influence of this party; and the plurality for tlz-anx is so small its to rob the fedoly of moat of its moral power. The New York election IS one of the develop ments referred to in a previous part of this arti clo as determining the character of this-new par ty. Their course iu other States has - been of a similar character. In St Louis they defeated ilattvon and glory in the foaL In Pennsylvania they elected Muir, a Nebraska Hunker of the strictest secL in Massachusettjtheyeclected a man for Governor who publicly hjoicelf. in the rendition of Brass. The men among whom their candidate for the Presidency in the next election is supposed to lie, are most of them alaveholders, and all of them thorough conserva tires. If these facts, taken in connection with the unanimouc voice of their press, are notoief ficient to chow the utter pro-elavery tendencies of the Know Nothings, we know not how facts can establish any point. NOTIIING DEFEAT On TCESDAY.—The result of the Ward Elections, on Tuesday, in this city, was a complete prostration of Know Seth ingism. In the First Ward there was no uppo ;eaten to the Know Nothing ticket, except on Constable, and the vote on that was a tie, show ing that if a full ward ticket opposed to Know Nothingism had been in the held it could have been elected. In the Ninth Ward a fusion was effected between the Know Nothings and Whigs, which resolted in the choice of their joint tick et In all the other wards the Know Nothing tickets were very generally defeated. The total vote of the secret order was about 14lat—its full strength, and this is only about one-third the vote of the city. The trial of Georgo A. Green was one of the wealthiest and most prominent men in Chicago, butit is said he lived unhappily with his wife, and finally got rid of her by poison. • STASDMILD SaALr..2.—The Baltimore Court OC.
