The moment it is quits certain that the Know- Nothing party is to be a National Pro-Slavery party, it wilt love vastly in all thv Northern States. In that way we shall save ourselves from the charge of injustice, when.we are wholly innocent of nay erieh inten tion.. Tao Rod. Du. Derr.--ire are piiimitted to publish the following extract from a letter which makes special reference to this popular It is dated "Bordeaux, October 30, 1854: "Yesterday, Sabbath morning, we assembled. all refreshed anS truly thankful that werhave been brought so far on our way in comfort and safety. "A quiet Sabbath - we could not expect, espe cially as our hotel is situate on the great thor oughfare of the city (width contains IffOAMO in .abitants.) On looking ont we could see no ap pearance of the 8441160th, except an occasional shop closed,—merchandise, .ke., passing and re passing, as on other days. At a quarter before 11, we started for the English church, and, by mistake, our guide took us to the Irene/. Prot estant church: We ditcovered our mistake just as witvwerit gang in, and were then directed to' the English church close by. _;Service did not commence there till balf-past 1-1 A. M., atid, of course, we had to wait a little. • All wan sery ,quiet and Sabbattolike in that quarter of the town. The ladies went in to rest in the church, while I walked slowly up and down in the shade, as the day was sery warm ; while sauntering thus, who should I net but Dr. Duff and his wife.. Poor fellow, he is sadly shaken—for some _two or three months be has been at Mulrern, in England, (the water care establishment,) and be says he feels' greatly benefitted, and is just now • wandering about the South of France. In a 'week or so he expects to be at Paris, and to re main for some time if it should agree with him; but he is endly changed. While speaking to nie for a few minutes he became a little nisi. mated—his head • could not bear it, and fib was obliged to stop. Mrs. Duff - seems afraid almost of his recognising an old friend. We/trent into the church together, and he occupied the same paw with as. "• . We learn that Dr. Doff remained at Malvern wail it was found necessary for him to seek re pole in Southern, France. It was is possible for his medical advisers to keep him as quiet at Malvern, as hie impaired health demanded. Its was constantly receiving ,v,orrespomlence, and it was not in his nature to refuse an answer, awl in consequence his removal from British shores was determined upon. The expedition of Colonel. Kinney. and his command to the Mosquito Territory for the es tablishment of a new Central American Repub lie is an event of no small mark. It will tell' upon history. -There-is not a shoddy. of a doubt that the expedition will be made, and a colony formed; .and there is strong reason to, believe its entire plan will beintecessfully consummated. The scheme, it to known, has been. for a tong while in contemplation. Many years since, a. vent of the greater portion of the Mosquito Territory was made by the King of the Mosqui toes to Samuel Shepherd and two associates for a reenniary consideration, amounting to about thirty thousand pounds; and it is under's-trees fer of that title, which, we'understand, Mr. Web- ster prowienced to be perfectly valid, that the 2, resent company, Consisting of some thirty-gen among whom are Senator Cooper of ,Pennsylvania and William Cost Johnson of Ma ryland, are acting.- Col. Kinney goes out as the agent .and representative of this company. He is well known as. the- leader of the Texan Rangers in the Texan struggle, and is noted fo. his resolution and energy. The members of-the expedition will number about a thousand. and each will receive, on landing, a certain allot ment of land fromllie company's potmesaious.-- The enterprise is in no sense fillibmitering. It involves, as we understand it, no invasion of for eign- territory -or occupation of other people's soil: It is favored not only by the Mosquito au thorities, but by those of all the Central Amer Man 'RS - public, and, has the countenance of both the American and English Gorernments. The designia to found anew iodependent republie_en the Mosquito toast; then to take measures for a convention from the republics of Nicaragua, Honduras, San Salvador, Costa Hied, Veragua, and New Granada, in order to adopt. a Federal' Constitution and establish a goverminet anal agar's to that of the North American Union. It Is stated 'that the most enlightened mjtn in these redoes countries are decidedly in faior of the undertaking, and have confidence in its Pranti , cability. The lesson ef Texan prosperity, and the very marked impulse given to the improve ' meat of Central America by the influx of an American population consequent upon the opCn ing of the various routes across the Isthmus, have completely broken down the old prejudice against the-American character and influence, and have implanted & positiverespect and confidence. It is calculated, mad we think reasonably enough that the American colony or republic will speed ily acquire a moral force which will put new life sod energy into every State of the Federation: and that a security and stability and a eym m iry will to, giveg.to the whore civil and judicial system of the country, which will not only have the happiest effect upon Central America itself, but will afford every South American Republic an example from which they may derive im mense advantage. It will also have the valuable effect of removing a most troublesome subject of variance between - the United States and' Great Britain. The Mosquito dispute would be st once wiped out of existence. It does not at all Outer into the plan to mune,. soy Dart of the country .to the United States, or to form any more intimate political connection with thin than with any Other nation. Tho moral baud which will unite the two Federations would be enough le itself to satisfy the largest- desires of either. The land ceded to this company comprises shout thirty millions of acre. The 'entire Fed eral ,Uoioa woulitextebd over an area of nearly five hundred square miles, an area more than ten Mims as large as New el Courier. Ashtabula nod Now .Llabon. The line on surveyed it eighty-flee miles, and for purposes of constrwetion is inform ally dieided into two sections, North and South, the alaboning being the diriding- line. Tbit por tion of tae Northern section, between the Liar- leta and Clinton Line, in Bristol was early put under contract for being prepared for the rails. The subacriplions for the Southern sections are nearly large enough to allow the commencement of construction, some $1.80,000 being the proposed "basis for tiethini operauon on the 53 miles of road. Tbe.Northern section, is somewhat more advan ced, there having beeiltilrity-six - miles of road pat under contract 'on favorable terms, the work to be done as feet as the Company has the means of payment. and no farther.— The Directors bare had 'with other evils twilit'. cable trouble with regard to land damages, al. thodgh iirsome cases the Company has received — grants of no slight amount. They bad resolved from the start to settle all land damages by an immediate and amicable adjustment, and thus ease to the Company and landholder the serious trouble and expense of the coarse required by , the present laws, yrlien, legal process Is resorted to. The amount-(in value) of land given to the Company, for the road, track, station bu and business convenience, including the valuable property at the harbor, presented by the propri etors, Messrs. IL Hubbard &To., land ,Mr. E. ilubbari, of Alkhiletown,:may 'be set down as worth to the 'Companyat least $30,000. The right - of way for the most of the line, through Aastinburg, Morgan Bonn, Orwell and Bloom field, are given - to the Company by written pro mise, and a beginning made for the final convey mice by deed. Although the collection of instalments have come in slowly; the Directors hare felt bound to order the contractors to commence the work and ,do a limited amount this Winter. They aim to persevere in taking and pursuing such meas. tires as will keep the affairs of the CoMpany In a condition to enable it the-next year, to finish for superstructure -the thirty.slx miles, now under, contract, and to extend their operations at least to. points where abundant supplies of coal and lime timy be reached. They believe that the com pletion of the mad for at least -fifty-five miles in leas than two years, should-depend on the.eimplt contingency—the usual 'productiveness of the country through which the road passes, and that r each completion would be Speedily followed by , extending the road to and beyoml.the terminus .fixed by the present articles.. The detention in - construction has been partially awing to the un fortunate stringency in the money market, but the fciends.of the Company have no doubt that he consequene of this unavoidable waiting, will ears from 5100,000 to : $300,000 in the sin gio, article, of iron. The . Company is now-in possession of, means for a beginning, taking all she subsMiptiona and lauds apptisiable to bad- ing the road from the Harbor to New-Lisbon, to the amount of $350,0000 .$400,000. Every day has further shown the value of the 'enterprise to its friends. It paises alotgrits - whole line through a rich and populous country, enter ing the coal, lime and iron some less than fifty five miles from the Lake. The cost of the rood for this fifty-five miles, ready for the reception of the locomotive, (calling the rails $5O per ton,) will not exceed, it is believed, $600,000. The cost of cars, locomotives and other furniture for a road; depends of. Course upon its business. A road of this length, if transporting in twelve months 300,000 tons of coal, lime, or iron, 25,- 000 of ordinary freight, and 50,000 passengers, might acquire an outlay for Curvature of between. slso, oooand $200,000. Here we have a gross ince= of aboutssoo, ooo per annum, on an out lay of less than $BOO,OOO. This statement is made in goal faith by the friends of the road, and if it •is anywhere near the facts, the road can hardly fail of being a very valuable one at. all events, —a very safe one for those personally interested in its being built.— One of its friends states that after it is in ope ration, it will be found thatifor several years it will do a heavy !timber business, that In one year after amen to coal 60,000 tons will hardly supply the local demands north of Warren. An examination of the maps of the country and census table ins connection with its resources, cannot fail of showing the substantial merits of the enterprise, in every aspect whether seen as rapid, easy and comparatively safe and cheap mode of traveling: as a 'means of increasing the value of all property ;along the line, and add from ten to fifteen miles from it, for the most pain We will come to the conclusion that I it presents an opportunity for a profitable invest meat, and that for those interesred in its success not to push the work forward with all possible I depatch, would be a work alike of imbecility and folly."—Pwarray TIMM OPE3IIIIO OF ERE .
