On the contrary, we find in in. the Erie Constitution, a Whig paper, a letter addressed by a railroad man to the editor, urg ing him to go for Bigler because the,Governor was the fast friend of the ras3roade in the gener al fight. This letter is;evldently written with the sanction of the railroadinterest, and is da ted at. Cleveland Sept 18r We make an extract of some length "Gov. Bigler bits been as friendly to the rail road interests as any Governor can be.— It is true he expressed some sympathy with the people of Erie last :winter when they were opposing the change of gunge. But we need not eamplaln of words of sympa thy when all hip acts were with no. The Judge who condemn to punishment, no doubt sympathizes with the unfortunate convict The Governor signed the bill repealing the gangs law in spite ef the remonstrances of the people of Erie and the directors of the Erie and North East railroad. After thus condemning by his acts the break of the gauge at Erie and all who sustained it by lawful or unlawlbl means, he certainly may' be excused for sympathizing with the people whose wishes ho had thwarted. Ile could do no lees and have any influence left to serve ns. His acts were in our favor again when he got up the law for the sham forfeiture of the west ern road. His acts were in our favor again when he not ted his request with other gentle Men at Harris. burg to the - people of Erie to obey the injunc tion of the United States Court. lie went to Washington and told the President that this injunction should be obeyed. Ills acts were in our favor again when he used his Influence for thepassage of the railroad compromise bill of last winter and, when it had passed both houses, promptly signed it. Were it not for that bill the railroad companies, :under the decision of your Supreme Court, would be In difficulty. But with that law, the decision of the Court will serve the enemies of the railroads no purpose but:to humbug yourmialed people with barbecues 'and partially cover the disgraceful 'retreat of ate corrupt part of their leaders to private life with comical and vociferons ehoutspf victory. It la true the Governor came out to Erie to sympathise and through the motions of taking possession of the western road • but the sihole thing was a humbug' which facilitated the pas sage of the compromise bill. Rio • message on his return sounded a little harsh to railroad men. but it did no hurt, and helped pass the eompro- Mise bill. The Governor meet be excused for high sounding professions as long as he gave as the benefit of his acts. • The people of Erie were so far misled that they sacrificed their true in terests to help base men secure private revenge by the destruction - of an unprotected railroad' track. Gov. Bigler saw their madness and must say something to :amuse them as we tell eto ,ries, to children to get them to tate medicine." This is plait, unreserved talk, and doubtless 'expresses the opinions of the railroad managers who wereao lately in collision with the people of Erie. - The fun of it all, is, it is true , and the railroad men, by showing their interest in the re election of Bigler, manifest a very proper appre ciation of hie 'acts in their behalf. The editor of the Constitution noes not think the arguments of the letter sufficient to induce bins gofer Bigler, although he is the attorney 81,044,86 and advocate of the railroads so highly favored by that functionary.
