The tone of the communication in the - Examiner would seem to indicate a decline in his glory. He will find his lord by and by.— He went up terocket — and will come down a stick. He is reaping, now, the harvest of reputation resulting frnm being the architect of a bridge which the wind bleir down; and he will soon add to that the fame of having engineered the "great highway of the nation"- (the Heinpfield, to wit) into an Impassible slough: He had better bide himself in one of the Sic tunnelabetween Wheel ing and Washington which -he laid out after de nying all necessity for them. Tux Seaman , ..krram.—We give in another column extracts from the New York roses and 'other Mims on the gigantic fraud practised in New York by Mr. Robert Schuyler. Tho New York papers are all full of 'comments upon if: and all unite in representing it as a degrading and dishonest affair tothe party engaged, and a national calamity, looked at in the light of its results. As to its immediate.effects, the CommCr dal Advertiser says: ' "Tile Schuyler affair. is still the absorbing topic in the street, and rumors of alldesiriptions,. some of them with the very slightest foundation in truth; are afloat. RAILUDID Mar.—A very handsome Railroad i Map, showing the principal Railroads in the middle and adjoining States, has just been pub lished in this city, by N.Vesnan, by whom it was compiled and drawn. It gives the routes of more than 2.50 Railroads; distinguiShes between those in operation, thus , constructing, and mere ly projected lines; and giiis the boundaries of the anthracite and bituminous coal-fields within the States represented. The map is very valua ble to all interested in Railroads, has been com piled with great care, and has received the ap probation of all who have examined it. Mr. Veeder, the compiler, may he found at the office of the ConnelLsville Railroad Company. The Schuyler fraud completely absorbs atten tion in Wall.street„ and, indeed, we may say out of it. No business event of the past five years has excited the - same general surprise and regret in the community. There , is, withal, Jo-day, no moan measure of indignation felt and expressed at the calculating and deliberate enormity of the wrongdoer. Whatever of sympathy may have been felt on the announcement of his failure; is lost in the cosideration of the pecuniary sacrifices and deep wounds to credit which his work:of un mitigated fraud has brought upon the put lie, and upon some of his associates in railway affairs. One of the latter, Mr. Governeur Mor ris, is reported this afternoon to be in pecuniary trouble, and the rumords that his confidenceolis abused by Schuyler. The Harlem Railroad Com pany are also severe sufferers. lie had no such easy access to their transfer books as to inflict the same character of loss as upon his owriCom pany, but is their debtor in a large sum for the Bonds of the concern, unaccounted for, ands se vere shock is thus given to the market value of the Stock. It fell to 87 1 4 cent. Railway Iron, purchased on credits abroad, for certain unfinish ed roads, on which be was a contractor, has been diverted on arrival here, and pledged for money or mercantile paper, to he used for other purpos es. In round numbers the sum total of the mis application of property, at present ascertained or reported may be thus stated: 13;000 chord New Undo Stock. fraudulently med.- $1,0M,000 Bonds of tee Ildlem Refine.' Company 3001.00 Adverted on Railroad Iron. ........ 103.003 .n=4% The chuck to confidence is not over. Early in the day there appeared to he a calmer feeling, but the farther fall of Stocks at the afternoon Board tells a different story: Harlem closed at WT I cent., Erie at 58, Reading at 731, Cumberland Coal ntlt, and Canton at 2'2_ Bat there 'shop° that reasonable reflectionwill arrest this dieposi tion to tacrifite property, in no wise implicated in the fraud, in the course of a few days. Tho first impression with a number of Wall street people, who from their influential standing and", long ex perience ought to reason differently, is, that if ' Robert Schuyler is capable of such a•wreng no one is to be trusted. This false coloring to the factitious position of the man mint soon pass away, and the folly and injustice of visiting the enormourf pinto which he was weak enough to be tempted—and which the gross inadvertence of his colleagues la the New Haven Board threw In his way—upon other Corporatione and their Stocks, more prudently managed, will then be realized. That he - belonged to an influential clique,-who put him in half-a-dozen trusts, that In, was incapable of managing, and that he was too vain or. dishonest to resign, will signify, in the end, no more than if he had been an obscure transfer. Clerk: and though the shock may be greater for the moment, the example ought to tell no more against other Stock property.— The whole affair must bo reasoned in a calm, businesstlike and common-sense way, if public sentiment would not bring an immediate and wide-spread crash upon all moneyed securities, and to:all confidence and credit among Men.— If there are othgr wrongs suspected, the part of wisdom would-be to apply the probe direct, and not by general distrust suffer tee guilty to mingle with the iuoocent, nod to poison all-con fidence. There is surely norm honesty extant, and the assertion will not sound so held, even to the panic-stricken, a week hence, as perhaps it does now, when we add that there is quite as moth to. be trusted to the transfer Officers of the . Public Works of the country resident in the city and to the transfer Agents of these Works when not immediately represented, as to any other class of business men. Most of them, unlike the Now Haven. Office, are checked and counter checked; and for the acts of a large number of the more important agencies, the Banks and tankers with whom they era kept, are directly and .amply responsible. And aside from this consideration, the large mass of Railway Bonds' which now: absorb so much of the domestic means of our country and attract foreign capital, require no such hiterrention, and - ought not, where the original registration and Countersign. ing by the trustees 'are all right, to share in the present general distrust.. If they have intrinsic value from the 'position end prospects of the roads upon which they - arc/ issued, we do not see that half a dozen such frauds as Schuyler has committed on the shire list of a single Com; pay, ought to affect the confidence in the neural mode of assignment by delivery. ,To return' to the case before us. The; wrong is done : . beyond too` hope of fall restitution.— The wrong-doer will probably escape, if he is not alread,y beyond the reach of justice.
