The repeal of the lgissouri Compromise is an outrage so flagrant, so ungenerous, displaying so much resolution and .desperation on the part of the slave-power,-that the Whlgs at the North at last feel that. there is no longer any hope of political union and affiliation. There is nothing left but resolute, determined reeistanew—a re sistance to be persevered d in, let the eonsepaicer be what they awry :We have conceded everything heretofore, for peace sake, 'that men can yield and - retain their self-respect and character as American freenten: These will not be given up to any =mint of clamor, or threats of dissolu tion of the Union. We never said 'they were turning Whigs. We do not ask them to do so. All we desire is, that they should take the part of good patriots and freemen in resist lag the overflowing flood of Slavery. Banks, Democrat, of .Massachusetts, and the Hon. J. Meacham, of Vermont Moth take ground strong ly against toe measure, and avow themselves rea dy to go the whole length of opposition. Mr. Banks, though an influential and lending man in his party, remarked that he had separated him self by an irretrievable step from those with whom he had beret ifore acted, and he now stands before his constituents an independent man, but pledged to hostility against the men and meas ures to which and to whom the present crisis is attributable. Mr. Meacham, in a letter to the recent Velment Whig State Convention, says that if the will'of the people had been obeyed, the Nebraska bill could not have been passed, that the Slissemri Compromise was repealed not only without .authority and without law, but in known and acknowledged violation of both. The Philadelphia election has been nolgreat victory to the combined forces of the Whigs and "Know Nothings," after all.
