AIIIIICULTOBAL PAPER.I3.—The "Country Gen gmata," and the-" Cultiaor," published by L. Tucker, Albany, New York, are most excellent papers of the kind. The "Country Gentleman" Is a quarto weekly, and is more general in its contents than the "Cultivator," which is amonth ly, and is devoted exclusively to agriculture.— The former gives a great deal of literary mat ter, and is rather a literary newspaper for agri culturalists and gardeners, than a strictly agri culturalpeper; containing besides in its ample pa ges a great amount of information in relation to fa rming and gardening. The " Country Gentle man" is $2 per annum, and the "Cultivator" 60 cents. ' , Parr Eases; Eso.L—The decease of this old citizen is announced in our columns this morning. MOIL WASHINGTON Coivespoudenos of the Pittsburgh Gamatte Thetreaty witit Me-vice and theSeratorial ekc tion in Mississippi excite givater attention than any other topics, though they have been on the carpet for a fortnight post. Not a few doubt whether any treaty has yet been made, and nearlyall who have kept an eye upon the pro grm.s of the negotiations, are of the opinion that none has been made in which Gadsden was not a principal agent. it is supposed that the agents of the Garay Company managed to get his ear through some of his relatives said to be inter ested as stockholders ini that Company. Of course, Santa Anna could have no invincible ob jection to their receiving any amount of money which was not to come out of his treasury. The five millions said to be aplibpriated by the treaty for the satisfaction of these deminds, is payable by the United States sad not by Mexico. But we need more light upon the 'subject before en larging uponth eta poink. The President is not yet informed of the alleged treaty, but that is not considered aa proof of its non-existence. The election of Senator from Mississippi is still in the:fog.- We had a. report this moroing that Jeff. Davis had already donned;the Senato rial robes. The same rumor gave the vacant post in the cabinet to Cob Clemens, who was before noon misted by Sen. Cushing. On the aline authority it wits announced to an expectant 'world that Mr. Gutirtie had retired. This repu ted starepeck produced -an excitement which I „Goal not attempt to-describe. Fortunately for the public peace, these alarming reperts, were contradicted before dinner. Davis is awaiting the summons to preferment. and Guthrie has no idea of moving until hoisted by some petard ether then his own. He feels' the more comfortable and stationary from the failure of all the move- Monts against him and his friend Washington, in the House and Senate. • Douglxss'e Nebraska enormity has emboldened the Slavery progagandists in Congrees.'and to day; Dixon, of Kentucky, a bigot of the first Water on - that question, submitted a resolution repealing the • Missouri Compromiee in express terms. This need excite no surprise, No exhi bition of trettehery, Aran, or audacity ought to surprise the country, after what we have seen during the pilkt five years. The plain meaning and Obvious intention of Dixon's resolution is to introduce Slavery into all the territories of the North West. I have frequently raid that under the present debasement and perversion of public feeling with regard to the unfortunate cdlored race; if it were seriously and resolutely proposed to introduce Slavery'into the free States, by act of Congress, it could be accomplished. Ido not is the least exaggerate when I repeat that mach is now my deliberate conviction, nor do I believe that the proposal would excite as mach indigna tion or encounter as strenuous an opposition as the Fugitive Slave Law did when first proposed and passed. I presume, therefore, that Diion's ,resolution repealing the Missouri Compromise will pass both Houses, notwithstatoling the klis sourlotimPromiite was an act of settlement agreed upon between contending sections ofthe country under the most solemn forms of adjnertnient that could - be devised, aid, notwitbitauiding that one party to the arrangement has enjoyed all and more than all, its expected fruits for thirty-four years': Dixon's resolution, moreover, is no worse than Douglass's bill, which accomplishes under a covert and sneaking pretence, the same thing. The House and Senate have both been deba ting to-day the propriety of awarding a testimo nial of public gratitude to the Captains and crews of the three ships which so nobly risked their own lives and the safety of their vessels in rescuing the passengers Of the San Francisco. They ought to be warm!): thanked and munifi cently:rewarded.' The Committee on the Jediciary have reported to Judgo Phelps' right to a seat as Senator from Vermont, by appointment of the Goternor, to fill the vacancy . , caused by Mr. Upham's death." I suppose the Senate will concur. This decision will establish the point that an appointment by the Governor of a State to fill a vacancy happen ing during the resew of the Legislature, is good until the Legislature sup:ercedes it by the choice of a successor. hed last Spring to explore the different routes for a Pacific railroad begin to come in. We are glad of this, tut the rioters deserve severe pun ishment for disgracing the sex, and using their garments to break the laws in. The Cleveland Forest City Democrat says: Yesterday forenoon, some fifty of the villains, disguised in tronisn's clothes, commenced au attack at the State Street Bridge, and tore it down. The statement is probably pre mature, and may 'have been intended to pre pare the way fur sending a new allied fleet auto the Baltic, which affords a better rotate to Rus sia than the Black Sea, and may yet hold a prominent place in the mini. history of the coming Spring. That some movement of im portance- in going on In Sweden, nay be inferred from the following statement which appears in the London papers: 1;EM=1131 Sing Oscar hos invited the Diet to nominate n small number of its members, possessing its en tire confidence, to whom, as a secret committee, the Government may make an important com munication. It is believed that the Government wishes in thin unostentatious manner to bring some momentous facts connected with foreign af fairs to the knowledge of the Diet., 'lt is stated that the King has thoroughly re organized the higher departments of the military and naval. service,—that negotiation.. are pend ing between the Cove:tenant.. of Sweden •and Denmark for a league offensive and defensive be tween the two States, and that both will stonce arm both by sea and land. Concerning the Soule (Indy, at Madrid. we have nothing additional, except a rumor that in a meeting with the Duke of Alba, subsequent to his son's duel with him, Mr. Soule, senior, was killed. The report is said to have reachad Paris by telegraph. Private letters from Paris to the latest date makes no mention of it, and we are inclined to think it unfounded.
