The committee on this subject, offered the following repent The Committee on the proposed basis of union report that In their view a prominent ob.' jest for which the church has been erected in the world, is that she may exhibit dieter truth nod apply it in opposing error and wickedaese. On' this principle the Secession Church was formed when our fathers, for openly confessing the pure doctrine* of the Gospel, were driven from the established church of Scotbuil In adhering to, and acting on this principle, God ham countenanced and upheld es hitherto. On this account therefore, as well 49 because be ban said "if any draw back, my cool shall have DO pleasure in him," and because we are a cov enanted Church, having come under the oblige. lion of solemn Town that we will continue in the service of God, it will be at our peril if we forsake the way in which we have gone. In order that we may with greater efficiency exhibit divine truth and oppose sin, we ebould do all in our' power to have others co-operate with us. Our language to brethren should be, "Oh, house of Israel come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord." "Come and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, ant he will teach 'nor his seam and will walk In his paths." Though this haele of union may not be In every respect what we would desire, yet, a, it lis In some good measure, a &GUM testimony for the truth of the scriptures as proposed by U 9, we judge it a sufficient basis on which to unite with all who will accept it. There appein a good degree of harmony swag the Presbyteries in approving the overturecd draft with some amendments.; out 'of those whose reports have come before no, eight recommended It for adop tion, two aro opposed, and one is for adoption only on audition that • narrative be prefixed.
