Some weeks since it wee very difficult to form any satiefactory . opinion on the subject.' It was then doubtful who would, be the Whig candidata. The Board, after 'peaking in terms of high commendation of the good management and the usefulness of the Institution daring the past year, proceed to speak of the new- edifice. re cently - erected. They say "With the limited means a: the command of the Director, he hes done what et:wearied per severance, and indoutitable energy, alone could accomplish, In rearing the beautiful edifice which the Board were invited to examine. Built in architectural taste, of the best materials and workmanship, and with special reference to the convenience of the attendants, and the comfort and eleanlinese of the patients, it speaks well for the future usefaluers of the Iruititution. The circumstances under. which this work we.ts pros ecuted, rendered the creation of debts unavoid able; and although the debt which will remold on the building, at in completion, will be small, in comparison with the work aocomplished, yet, in the feeble. state of the finances of the Institution, (if this debt ie not epeeist': pro vided for,) it will cripple its usefulness, render nugatory many blessings, which mignt other wise be diepensed, and, iu a manner embarras the operations of the Director, who has labored so faithfully against all difficulties, to bring the Institution to its present flourishing condition. lot fends be rained adequate to its support, and itc progrees in usefulness will make it a char ity which can be regarded with indifference by none; white its merciful character, and the self sacrifice and devotion of the Deaconeases, must highly Commend it to the sympathy and support Of this enlightened Christian community." Bev. W. A. PAIIISATAHT, the excellent founder and indefatigable Director of this Inatitution, hie report, after speaking of the pbyeical bene fits derived by the numerous patients who have been under its charge, geeson to say: • • "With regard to the moral results of the In= etltution, we prefer, as hitherto, to speak only is general terms. And yet, it were easy to re fer to individual instances, and multiply facts, to show that the influence of Christian kindness, during sickness, is most powerful for good, even ! when all other mein. have felled to make an impression upon the heart It le believed that few of thn patients have left the house without carrying with them an Increased conviction of the truth of Christianity. In a number of in etances, the wanderer from God has been re stored to purity and peace. " Not Not only tears of gratitude, but likewise tears of repentance, have watered the cheeks of patients, as they left the house. And the after conduct and lettere of not a few snob, are the evidence - of their repentance. Death-bed stones of peaco and triumph, have' Loco Witnessed, which leave no doubt that they sleep ib Jesus. The neglect and indifference which had tried the faith of suffering eainte, has been forgotten in a home of affection, and amid the offices of Christian love. But the distant future alone can folly reveal the influences for good which have been exerted. Enough le known to inspire the hope that nur let•oi in the Lord ie out in vain." Of the, resources for the past year, he says: "In addition to numerous donations, of great er or lees value, in provisions, groceries, bed ding, clothing. do., the following moneys have been received into the treasury, during the year 'ending with December 31, 1851, toward the support of the , Institution:—From individuals, churches; societies, See $850,74; from annual subscribers, $295,00; from charity-box of Infir warYs $20.43; from board and nursing of pay patients, $396,93; from (loardians of Poor, for nursing and care of patients snit by them, $449,90; making a total of $2,019,00." Again, after speaking at length of the finan cial affairs of the Inetitutlon, he remarks: '•ln looking over the list of donations which accompany this report, the history of ninny is recalled to mind with singular interest. Not a few are the offerings of children and young per eons.. Several are, literally, the widow's mite. A number are the thank-offerings of former pa tients, who forget not their obligations when prosperity crowned their labors. The greater part ware made voluntarily and unsolicited. The printing dispute was renewed in the House today with a degree of animation proportioned to the amount of spoils to be divided. The chairman of the committee, Mr. Gorman, set forth the committee's story, which furnished very little additional intbrmation. Gorman mid d' committee had taken votes innumerable as to the mode of remedying the delinquency of the ' printer, but all attempts at decisive notion had been defeated by tie rotes. Orr's proposition, yesterday, to make railroad iron entirely free, was more favorable than previous movements of the free traders had given us reason to expect. The storm of indignant feeling which came up from all the mining States, on the bare sugges tion of the scheme Bret developed in the lisl eigh Railroad Bill, and which 1- exposed at length, in my correspondence a month ago, has produced a very salutary effect upon the major ity, and made them pause in their projects far enriching the British iron masters at the expense of our own. KOSSUTH IR THE SOUTH. Correnoorotenro of the N. Y. Tribal), Montle, (A 1.,) April 4. 1862 The demonstration in this city yesterday was the most enthusiastic one yet:given in the South. Kossuth spoke in the Ampiatheater, which, through the weather was unfavorable, was crowded from the pit to the gallery. At least five thousand people heard hie speech. He was welcomed by D. Chandler, Esq., in a warm and encouraging address. Kossuth's speech was bold and emphatic. He was more enthusiastic ally cheered then he has been since he left north ern Ohiorand the applause was moat frequent at those points in which his doctrines were bold ly declared. He referred briefly to the course of Mr. Clemens, and his remarks in reference to this gentlemen were received with marked In termit. He concluded with Speaker King's toast at the Cougresiional bauqeue in Washington on the ith of January; and when he sif dowh cheer upon cheer watt given spontaneously from every part of the hawse. But the audience had not heard epaskine enough—the peoples hearts were moved and they called {madly for ocher speakers_ Ex-' Goa Gale, after he had been repeatedly called for, rose and said it could not be expected of him to make a speech; all he could say was that he most heartily endorsed the doctrine of con intenentim which Kossuth had that day ex plained. This declaration was received with enthusiasm: Judge Meek was next called for. He responded by saying it was unkind to. ask him to speak of war In the presence of Hanni bal, bat he would express the sentiments of the people of Mobile while they were with the elo qatitit defender of liberty whom they had just heard. [Cheers ] Ile ossured.Koseuth that .he had taken Alabama. He complimented him as a hero—one who had climbed half way the rugged steep of fame, and would be cheered to .the summit by the people Who had that day been charmed with his eloquence. He declared the 'Autocrat of the North would not be Allowed to violate the rights And trample upon the liberties of nations [cheers) —that the United States—the home of Liberty —must protest against infamous encroachment, and that the nations of Europe in their struggle for Liberty would find serried ranks from the New World, ready to bare their hreeete to the bullets of the tyrants of 'the Old World, if the cause of national liberty demanded it. [Cheers.] He bid Kossuth' go On in his glorious mission— to regard in uo degree the personal calumny and personal animosity which might be leveled a maitit him; the hearts of a free peopke were with him He said there was not a men or a woman in Mobile who endorsed the eouraii of Mr. Cle mens toward him. Ile demanded, "Is there an Alabamian who would justify the personal ani mosity which Senator Clemens has manifested toward. the exile who pleads fir liberty among oar . [Cheers and cries of "Ni.") Judge Meek concluded by assuring Kossuth that as he was the center of all eyes in the 'assembly of people whose heartabeat responsive to appeals for liber ty, so was he the cynosure of the eyes of the op premed people of Europe who preyed, and would fight for national liberty. lloamith rem at the conclusion of the Judge's remarks and grasping his hand, shook it warmly amid pro louged applause from every part of the nevem Col. Walker was•neit called for. Ile rose re luctantly and said if Judge Mcek dare not speak of war in thapresenee of ilarmibal ',how dare ho plead for liberty before a greater , than a Do , mosthenes or Cidero. .lie could only say be was heart and Soul with the principles, the great Nlegsar had explained and defended. [Cheers. J Ttiniing to flossuth be contimied, end to you. Sir, I would say, I consider it one of the proud est moments of my life, that I have heard you and that with a warm grasp of the band, I can look you in the fare and thank you, and tell you lam with you. [Prolonged _. ap plause.) Rev. Mr. Milburn sees celled for. Re said be . came Dom the peaceful walks of life. Men in his station had not much means to bestow. on a Cause with which they sympathized, but it we, their privilege to invoke the blessings of God, and that cause with which was the God of Roots most bo triumphant. Ile invoked the blessing of God on the Cause of filiogary and its advocate. because it was the cause of religious es well as civil liberty. On motion, the meeting adjourned with three cheers for Hungary. The Committee ofNeception dined with Nes sath and suite it the. hotel, where they were on. tertained at the city's expense. They left Mobile yesterday afternoon on the steamboat Daniel Pratt, for Montgomery. 'The citizens of Mobile become responsible for the expenses of the Hungarians to Montgomery.-- When the Pratt left the Mobile wharf three cheers were given by a large crowd for Nesmith, and three for Hungary. The New Orleans mere boasted that in no Southern city would Kossuth be received with the "fanaticism - that disgraced Northern el ties. In no city of the North was there more , spontaneous enthusiasm than in Mobile.
