Hospital,. where every attention was paid him
by Doctor J. .0. Myers, the able Surgeon of that
excellent erinblishment.
It is propr , for us to remark-, that as soon as
the accident ocenrred,that gentleman kindly
tendered the use of the Hospital•to the wounded.
A number of persons were somewhat injured,
but fortunately sustained no serious damage.—
When we arrived on the ground, the forward

inquest on the luttly of Jame, A. Lindram, the
litho child who wta,, killed, and ri jury having
- been empannelled, they proceeded down on the
locomotive Allegheny, to view the scene of the
‘ltecidpot. When there, the Toflowing evidence
. Was offered, and they returned to Allegheny.
Mr: Itrown sworn;— I was .engineer of -the lo
comotive Allegheny, was running at the speed
of ?rem in to 20 miles an hour. Two cows were
atanding together near the road:, had , whis
tled a short time before for a ceiw'which was on
the track. 1 whistled again, wheal was near
the cows, dad one can on the track in front of
the locomotive, tuld.the other fan up the. bill.
I caught her when l she nia on the track. The
locomotive was notl provided with a row-catcher.

cows,- I struck •one, two or three weeks ago,
abut sbp escaped. The accidenthappened about

ing any intoxicating liquor. The cow was not
in'the track till theltooment I struck her.
William Snyder (fireman) sworn.—.4s we were
coming up, there mere two cows along side of
the road. The engineer Whistled. The cows
Oen went on slowly, and moved somewhat to
one side. Tile engine \ e'r rnistled,for the men to
break.: Theta - coils were those below where

rani away and one - Jumped on the track - , just as'
the locomotive came up,. It would have been
impassible to have stopped. 1 harp been a fire

telligent pupils, whit were shading near the
track to see the cars pass. I did not lee the
accidtint, but heard, the crash, and ran immedi-
Ately down. I foetid both, the child and its
mother, lying apptirently dead. They were ly
ing in the car, on the broken fragment's. We
removed them to the shrills, and I took the child
and remarked that it was dead. The mother
then revived, and ocened one eye: the other ap
peered .fo be Imesi in. She stretched, forth
and 'grasped the ebb.' stoutly, taking it on her
lap. The bOdies ivilro lying apart when I first
saw them.. The child was very bloody, and I
did not examine the wound.
George. G: Smith, (one or Mr. Gray's pupils, )
Anted that he was standing near the track, and
nave the cow jump on it.. The locomotive - Slid
baggage car passed over her. Then I saw the
first passenger car lifted into tbeair. Thesee
ond car was pitched on its side on the , south
• aide of the track.' The cow stepped on just in
front of the locomotive.
Ti 31c1binald Smith. (another pupil,) declared
that the cow woo feeding near the track, and
what the locomotivt; came up, she jumped on in
front of it.
D. N. Courtney, (conductor,) bad
been through the ears taking up, the checks; and
went back to the front end of the train to count
the parengers. I counted them bathe first car,
and pass .l on, into the•middle car. In going
from one to the other,. I saw the brakestnan who
is so bafily at hie post. 'There were one
hundred and seven . passengers. . I was in the
middle car, (the one in whiCh the child was kill
ed,) 'at the time of the accident. The engineer
Is,a sober, discreet. prudent man, :,and I have al
ways felt safe when he was on the cars.' I never
knew the engineer to drink,
John Lamb, (baggage - keeper,) sworn—Was in
the baggage car. it passed over something,

The jury, after consultation, , ,mianimously re
turned the following verdict, "we null that
James A. Lindram carnet° hisdeath by a railroad
accident, whitb, in the opinion of the jurors, was
unavoidable, so fur as regarded the officers of the
, train, JOo . were all at 'their posts doing their
duty. ` This, jury, however, consider+ the con
duct of ffte-raillyid company in - . not having a
cow catcher on thlocomotite Allegheny, culpa
ble as had it been'provided with one, the lament
able injuries sustained by the passengers, and

During the fire a steam pipe burst, which

MrAtyan is not now'in this city, having gone to
the East to purchase stock, but is expected to
return to-day. His establishment, in tho same
locrwidn, was burnt down about a year ago. ,

The stoek and fools lost ore estimated at about
$15,000. Mr. Deavo's loss is $5OOO, on which
there is an itmortinee of •$3OOO. Messrs. Ryan
& McKee's loss is very heavy, amounting, with
out taking the building into consideration, to
over $BOOO. They wero inured in the, East, to
the amount of $14,500. We could not learn of
any : further insurances. The stock in that por
tion of the building which was eared, Consisting
f valuable furniture, was hastily removed, and
versouree much damaged: Had there 'been a
-high wind, the consequences would. have been
very disastrous. .

yesterday prostrated, While at work bet Ween the
depot and the passenger station, by n sun
stroke. He lay apparently dead for about an
hour, and was removed to Hickory Fjolt his
boarding house, on a settee. He is"-recover
ing.

engaged upon the Herculean task of remosing

from the United States, invites mechanics not to
limiitate about cmigratiug thither. The editor
says they will obtain pleilty anti a constancy. of
employment. The rates of wages are high, and
the prices of subsistence moderate for that sec
tion, He says,'

rudimental condition of eiviliration, and ammo-,
quently there is a demand for carpenters, black
smith, tin-wqrkera, tailors, boot and shoemak
ers, batters &0., &c., just the same, with the ex
ception of more advantage to them than would
be 4,eriVed from the settlement of a new town
in the Western portion of the United States."
The flonrishing condition of the agricultural
acid mineral interests of Chili have never so for
cibly manifested themselves al at this period,
the large exports toCalifornia having mach con
tributed to it.
Inithe year 184$ : the first year of exports to
that country, it am)unted only to $1150,195; in
1849, it ascended tin $1,855,400; and in 1850,
to $2,445,888. .
The exports to Peru, principally consisting pt.
wheat and flea, have surpassed the former year
$200,000,, taking also in consideration the'prob
tile exportation of wheat and dear to Sydney
during the, present year. Agricultural produce
must remain scarce and meet with ready sale at
a moderate price. Stock will consequently keep
low, and 'growers will make preparations tolkos
a larger quantity of' seed for next year's crop.—
The production at present is insufficient for the
demand, hut If holders, insist oo exhorbitant
prices they will not again realise such golden re
sults.

Four'. Baltimore county men were killed by the

to Arrest a fugitive slave yesterday afternoon,
wiz : Mr. Edward tiorgurh, owner of the Awe,
and Bickeson Gorsuch, bin L' L l4o. The. names of
the °thin: two are not given. There io immense
ezeitenient here in regard- 6 it. Two of the
party rirrived hero, this morning.
FURTHER PAIVICBLARS.
The negro , was secured in a house, and when
Gorsuch awl hie party entered they tied up
stnirs, armeil with nmskets. and prevented the
party from as:ending. They then hlowed a hors
when they were immediately reinn,rced by 200
negroes and whites. who surrounded t h e house.

him in capturing the slave, lint they refused.—
The negroes then tired upon:their pursuers, awl
kilted Gorsuch and his 5.,1 instantly, nod it is
suppesed mortally wounded threeothers.
Three negroes were also wounded, But the

BOrsuch and his friend+ killed, were rapecta
ble citizens of Baltimore county. Great excite
meat prevails, and the Government, it is suppo
sed, must interfere. -
