COLONIZATION IlEr.rtsa.—The Colonization
Meeting last night, held in the Second Presby
lathp Church, was attended by a numerous and
very intelli g ent audience.
On motion of Jesse Carothers, Esq., the fl oe

• The Rev. Dr. NieKinley opened the meeting
with prayer.
The Reverend A. D. Quay, General Agent of
the Pennsylvania Colonlndian Society, made a
fewremarke erplanatery of the. oteet and pro
geese of the society.
'The Horiorable Walter 11. Lowrie moved the
tedtPtion of the following resolution, in a very
neat and appropriate address:
. • Resolved—As the sense of this meeting. That
in viewed' the great success which has crowned
the efforts of the friends of Colonization upon
:the'peast.of Africa, we are celled upon to give
public expression to our confidence in this !when:*
. Of benevolence towards the colored race of our
•teountty, as a great cam* of humanity and

This resolution was seconded by Doctor Mc-
Einley, end unanimously adopted.
The itzmumble aeries Naylor offered the fol
lowing resolutions to the meeting, prefacing them
with a speech characterized by his accustomed
learning and ability. , •
'resolved—That i e regard the recent estab
lishment of. Repubpc in Liberia, founded on
the princlplem of civil and religious Liberty,
and reguleted by just and wholesome laws, es
en event in- the history of nstions worthy of •
- special regard, and benevolent favor.
Resoliod--Therefore, that a public meeting
beheld at some early nod convenient period,
for the organization of a Colonization Society
• in Allegheny County, auxiliary to the Penney , '-
" min Colonization Society, and that a Commit
-, tee of fire he appointed to make the necessary
arrangements for such meeting.
On motion, Captain Naylor's resolutions were
unanimously adopted.
• Colonel Samuel W. Black, in a speech, replete
with his wonted brilliancy and animation,
pressedupon the assemitly the consideration of
the following resolution:
Resolved, That the influence which the scheme
...of African Ckbmizetion exerts to suppress the
• slave trade, to spread the English language and
the principles of Republican Government, and to
open new markets for American products, and
extend American commerce, should commend it
to the favorable consideration of every true pa
tella, and the liberal contributions of all.
' On motion the resolution was unanimously
• adopted.

resources, we have almost permitted our rives

I then went down to the boat to lay the iron
aside, and found a crowd of men on board, with
whom the clerk was arguing. I inked what was
the matter, and he said they had all paid but one.
One of the men came up and asked the witness
what he was doing with the iron in his hand'—
He explained what he wan doing with It, butthe
crowd jerked the iron out of his hand, and
knocked him oown, saying that he was going to
strike them with it. On rising, he was again
strack—his head being very badly cut. There
were upwards of twenty in the crowd, and they
called out "kill him," and would have injured
him much more severely if they had not been so
close together as not to be able to strike him,
without injuring each other.' As it woe, he was
unable to attend to bin business for a long time.
The witness could not recognize the defendants.
Martin Profader sworn—Witness testified to
the assault which had been committed on Mr .
Jones. The whole crowd rushed on him. Those
who could not strike him, threw stones at him.
Ile thought that the defendants were there. Ile
did not know their names, but believed that they
were there.
