PROFITABLE REPORT.
13, M,' Peck teud a piolltublu lepoit
of the tenth Intel national Sunday
school convention recently held hi
Denver, Colorado. The repoit was pre
pared by A. Wilson Geiuy and his sis
ter and was to have been pieseuted by
him but seilous Illness prevented his
presence, The report showed that the
rumor was false as to the Intention of
the International committee on prepar
ation of Sunday school lessons to omit
temperance lessons In the course of
study, The paper was listened to with
Intense Inteiest uiul a vety excellent
levleit of this great convention. At
the suggestion of new It. F. Y. Pierce,
D, D. of Scranton, a vote of thanks
was extonded to Miss Geary for pre
paring the paper and Roy. W. H. Draw
as called upon to Invoke God's bless
ing upon Mr, Geary In his Illness. A
tejegram of sympathy was forwarded
to the bedside of Mr. Geary, with this
isaee of scripture appended, "Tlmt
thou majest prosper and be In health as
thy soul piospeicth."
,h. 13 Jones of Harfoi d, gave a repoi t
on the "Ileal t Lake Summer School."
This school was oig.inlzcd two yeais
ago and is one of the best attended
schools of this kind In the state. The
lepoit suggested many .excellent
methods of Sunday school woik, nnd
how Sunday txhool teacheis should be
ti allied for their woik which is the
puipose of the school. Owing to the
fact that two of the speakeis of the
morning, Messrs Lathrop and Jones
camp fiom other denominations than
the Baptist a vote of thanks was un
animously extended to them. The
nioi nlng session came to a close with
singing, "Blest Be the Tie" and bene
diction by Rev. Cole, of Elmhuist.
AFTERNOON SESSION.
The sun shone foi th bright and w arm
when the afternoon session opened at
2 o'clock with a devotional sen Ice, led
by Albeit Ball, of Dalton. At the
close of this President Clark tqok the
chair and called the convention to or
der. The reading of lettets was dis
pensed with this time, and an addtess
was glen of an Instiuctive nature on
"Does Sunday School Woik Pay?" by
E. S. Williams. He said this work In
olves moio than dollars and cents.
No woik In the country has so much
talent and love deoted to a woik as
hns the Sunday school woik. The work
pays because chai actor Is being mold
ed, the chinch Is being recruited, and
the Joy theie Is la the woik and the
endiunnco of this woik In eternity.
"The Pupil" was the subject of a
vciy Interesting open conference, In
chaige of S. Fletcher AVebum, of
Scranton. In his intioductoiy ie
maiKs the speaker stated that the
Sunday school should not take the
place of the home, that It Is a most
Impoi tant factor, and that Jesus
Chtlst should be the eential llguie and
power in the Sunday school woik.
This woik willies and sticngthens the
spliltual foices o the Christian life,
and In the Sunday Behoof the highest
moial cultuie may be wrought. The
topic was divided Into tluee paits,
each assigned to a speaker. The flrst
speaker, Grant Lewis, spoke on "How
to Catch the Pupil." He lamented the
small attendance of young men at the
Sunday school. He advised peisonal
contact and invitation, with pei sever
ance and sociability, and Inducements
be pie.sented as to benefits to bo do
ll ved In being a pupil In the school,
Giles Clark spoke on "How to Hold
the Pupil." Ho emphasized the fact
that one should Inteiest, instruct and
Impiess. "How to Save' tho Pupil"
was consldcied by Miss S, C, Krlg
bauni. Rev. Thomas de Gtuchy, D. D.,
gave an Insplilng addiess on "The Boy
In Our Sunday School for Jesus
Chi 1st." ' The speaker said In tho
course of his i filial Its that the Sim
day school Is for tho boy. Tho boy Is
a tiemendous, significant cicatuie. Wo
should use tact, kindness, love nnd pa
tience In dealing with boys, Teachers
should be evangelists. They should
teach to win souls to Clulst. Follow
ing this Rev, R. F. Y. Pieice, D, D.,
gavo a description of- tho Use tiud
giowth of the Sunday school, showing
the Dhlne hand In it. An excellent
paper, piepaied by Miss Ruth Miller
on the "Sunday School Teacher's Woik
and Reward," was read by Mrs, a. R.
Smith. "Missions In tho Sunday
School'' was tho topic of a well
piepaied paper by Dnilim Comings, A
bief business session was held, and
