The iuii)ual election of ofllcers was held and the following weie elected: President, Giles Claik, of Scranton; vico-pipsl-dent, Dr. A, B. Fitch, of Factoryvillo; secretary, T, M. Koehler, of Scianton. The now president, Mr. Claik took the i hair and pieslded over the lest of the convention, Maxwell D, Lutluop, of Carbondale, dellvoied an Intciestlng address on "Why Wo Attend Sunday School." He answered this by stating that the prlmaiy put pose Is to study the bible, Ho dwelt upon the impor tance of bible study the lack of It nnd the unique characteristics of the word of God which schould make It 'a book much studied. Wilson Geiuy and his sis ter and was to have been pieseuted by him but seilous Illness prevented his presence, The report showed that the rumor was false as to the Intention of the International committee on prepar ation of Sunday school lessons to omit temperance lessons In the course of study, The paper was listened to with Intense Inteiest uiul a vety excellent levleit of this great convention. At the suggestion of new It. F. Y. Pierce, D, D. of Scranton, a vote of thanks was extonded to Miss Geary for pre paring the paper and Roy. W. H. Draw as called upon to Invoke God's bless ing upon Mr, Geary In his Illness. A tejegram of sympathy was forwarded to the bedside of Mr. Geary, with this isaee of scripture appended, "Tlmt thou majest prosper and be In health as thy soul piospeicth." ,h. 13 Jones of Harfoi d, gave a repoi t on the "Ileal t Lake Summer School." This school was oig.inlzcd two yeais ago and is one of the best attended schools of this kind In the state. The lepoit suggested many .excellent methods of Sunday school woik, nnd how Sunday txhool teacheis should be ti allied for their woik which is the puipose of the school. Owing to the fact that two of the speakeis of the morning, Messrs Lathrop and Jones camp fiom other denominations than the Baptist a vote of thanks was un animously extended to them. The nioi nlng session came to a close with singing, "Blest Be the Tie" and bene diction by Rev. Cole, of Elmhuist. AFTERNOON SESSION. The sun shone foi th bright and w arm when the afternoon session opened at 2 o'clock with a devotional sen Ice, led by Albeit Ball, of Dalton. At the close of this President Clark tqok the chair and called the convention to or der. The reading of lettets was dis pensed with this time, and an addtess was glen of an Instiuctive nature on "Does Sunday School Woik Pay?" by E. S. Williams. He said this work In olves moio than dollars and cents. No woik In the country has so much talent and love deoted to a woik as hns the Sunday school woik. The work pays because chai actor Is being mold ed, the chinch Is being recruited, and the Joy theie Is la the woik and the endiunnco of this woik In eternity. "The Pupil" was the subject of a vciy Interesting open conference, In chaige of S. Fletcher AVebum, of Scranton. In his intioductoiy ie maiKs the speaker stated that the Sunday school should not take the place of the home, that It Is a most Impoi tant factor, and that Jesus Chtlst should be the eential llguie and power in the Sunday school woik. This woik willies and sticngthens the spliltual foices o the Christian life, and In the Sunday Behoof the highest moial cultuie may be wrought. The topic was divided Into tluee paits, each assigned to a speaker. The flrst speaker, Grant Lewis, spoke on "How to Catch the Pupil." He lamented the small attendance of young men at the Sunday school. He advised peisonal contact and invitation, with pei sever ance and sociability, and Inducements be pie.sented as to benefits to bo do ll ved In being a pupil In the school, Giles Clark spoke on "How to Hold the Pupil." Ho emphasized the fact that one should Inteiest, instruct and Impiess. "How to Save' tho Pupil" was consldcied by Miss S, C, Krlg bauni. Rev. Thomas de Gtuchy, D. D., gave an Insplilng addiess on "The Boy In Our Sunday School for Jesus Chi 1st." ' The speaker said In tho course of his i filial Its that the Sim day school Is for tho boy. Tho boy Is a tiemendous, significant cicatuie. Wo should use tact, kindness, love nnd pa tience In dealing with boys, Teachers should be evangelists. They should teach to win souls to Clulst. Follow ing this Rev, R. F. Y. Pieice, D, D., gavo a description of- tho Use tiud giowth of the Sunday school, showing the Dhlne hand In it. An excellent paper, piepaied by Miss Ruth Miller on the "Sunday School Teacher's Woik and Reward," was read by Mrs, a. R. Smith. "Missions In tho Sunday School'' was tho topic of a well piepaied paper by Dnilim Comings, A bief business session was held, and the afternoon exercises came to a close. EVENING EXERCISES. In the evening theie was a large audience piesent when Professor B. F, Thomas, of Keystone academy, opened the devotional exciclses at 7.30 o'clock. The first addiess of the evening was delivered by George w, Phillips, on the "Relation of Teacher to Pupil." The choir of the church sang an anthem and the convention came to a close with on address by John II. Harris, D. Today the nine ty-fifth anniversary of tho Ablngton Baptist association will commence, and continue until Thursday afternoon. Rev. H. J. Whalen, D.
