LICENSE COURT TODAY.
There Is Much Anixlety Among Ho
tel Keepers as to What the
Court Will Do.
There is no end of anxiety among
the liquor dealers as to what will trans
pire In court, this week, when the throe
Judges will receive and pass upon the
license applications. The recent svholc
snle refusal of applications In the
neighboring county of Luzerne is ac
countable for no small part of the anx
iety. Twentj- protests have been filed in
this county and in ever Instance the
protest is a vigorous one. Nine of
them were filed by tho Municipal
League and the league agents arc pre
pared to prove that their protcsL Is
svell grounded. Three protests came
from the police department, and Super
intendent Day is ready svith evidence
to show that his assertions concerning
the disordeiij character of the places
attacked are not idly made. The other
eight, which came from the smaller
towns are backed by long lists of sign
ers who give svhat they believe are
good and sufficient reasons for their re
monstrating. The hearings In these cases and on
the applications for new licenses svlll
likely keep the court busy for three
or four days.
There are 770 applications on file this
year, a deorease of 18 as compared svlth
1001. In the city of Seranton the num
ber of applications is 228 or BO less than
last year.
