this city, who finished third in tho
contest, enrolled on Its opening day,
Mav 13, being No. 12 on the list. He
made his (list return on May IS, tak
ing third place out of a list of fhe
leaders who had scored points. On
Mny 21 he was second and on Juno G
he was first. He h.id maintained first
plare from then up to within thirty
minutes of the close of the contest,
at one time being over 200 points

Mr. and Mis. Georgo F. Schwenker nnd
is a bookbinder by trade His father
is the manager of Tho Tribune's bind
ery and Is one of tho prominent citi
zens of South Scranton.
William Miles.
William Miles, who finished In "fifth
place, Is 21 years of age. He was born
In Wllkes-Barre, wheio he has passed
tho major portion of his life, being
educated in the puhllo schools of that
city. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs,
John Miles, his father being a native
of Wales. He is a new .'dealer on Wo
mine avenue, associated In business
wlth his brother Thorme. He olo en
tered the content on the ftr-t day, being
the fifth one to enroll. He his kept
well up among the leaders nil the way
through, until the Inst month, never
having been lower than third. He also
has won n scholarship In the Scranton
Conservatory of Music, which he will
probably telect In preferenrn to one In
the Pcinnton Huslno's College, as he
has musical tastes. HI brother Is one
of the bet known bandsmen In this
section, being tho solo cornetlst In
Uauer's band.
Miss Norma Meredith.
MM Norma Meredith, who flnl'hed
In sixth place in The Tribune's lMura
tlonal Contest. 1 21 ears old. She was
bout In Jlvde Park In the same house
In which she now resides, at 125 North
Ilromley avenue, She has been well
educated In the public schools of this
city Her parents are Mr, and Mrs.
John H Meredith, the latter being a
native of Wnles. Miss Meredith en
tered the eontest on May 13, helnjj the
fourth one to enroll She has kept up
well In tin1 lead all through, the last
few days doing exceptionally well.
Ray Buckingham.
Hny Buckingham, of Hlmhurst, who

finishes seventh, Is the youngest of
the entlie list of winners, being but 13
yeais old. He was limited somewhat
In his sphere of action by the size of
the town he lles In. hut has done re
markable work considering his years.
Ho did not apply for enrollment until
May 20, being the forty-third one to
do so. He made his flint return on
June 3, taking ninth place, nnd for
awhile did not Improve upon that posi
tion, but on Juno 20 he took sixth
place and kept it until Just a few days
before the close, when he was passed
by Miss Meredith.
Miss Vida Pedrick.
MIs-s Vida Pedilck, of Clark's Sum
mit, who finished In eighth place, was
another who had a lather small field
to work In In her home town. Hut she
has done remarkably well, having moie
points, even In eighth place, than the
winner of fourth place had last year.
Miss Pedrick entered the contest on
May lfi, being No. 20, nnd biought In
her first points on May 25, taking
ninth place In a list of ten. For the
first month she continued well down In
the list, hut nfter that she got right nt
work, canvassing all the nearby towns,
i ven coining to Scranton to get points
She has clung steadfnstly to the hope
that she would finish In Table No. 1,
s-o that she could get a scholarship in
the Scranton Huslness college, nnd her
wishes will nrvv be realized.
The Speclnl Rewards.
Now that the contest Is oxer, It will
be Interesting to glance over the list of
special lewaids to which tho eight for
tunate contestants are entitled, A de
scription follows:
No. 1 A scholarship at Swarth
moro college, nt Swarthmoie, Pa ,
about 18 miles from Philadelphia. It
has a large and Increasing fatuity,
nnd Its lectuiers nre from the best
college and business Institutions In the
United States. The Tiibune gives n
scholarship valued at $1,000, which Is
the pi ice of the full four yens' course
exclusive of mealy, which will ccst $150
per year. In addition to the four ears'
Mholars-hip Tho Tribune will give, to
Miss Gritlln 10 per cent, of nil the
money she has turned In to It during
the contest, about $70, in cash.
No. 2 A scholarship In Lafayette
College which Is well and favoiably
ki'own all over the United States, it
would be superfluous to add words ot
pialse in describing Its standing in th
tanks of educational Institutions. The
student who goes there as a result of
his success In working for The Tribune
will have an opportunity that Is not
likely to occur again In a llfe-tlme.
He will receive a full scholarship In
any course he may select covering four
venrs. which will Include not only tui
tion, but room tent, heat, light, books,
laundry nnd all other chniges except
tho ono Item of meals If Mr. Ander
son -elects this reward The Tiibune
will pay hlni 10 per cent, of nil the
