SINGLE SESSION OF SCHOOLS.

to have only one session a day during

rollment was over 2,200 and the aver
age attendance more than 1,710. The

Is high for this season of the yeai.

ritt. The school board held their monthly
meeting last evening. A number of
bills were read and oidered paid. Ai
thur Wlntei, piesldent of tho class of
1000, was present and addressed the
board, giving them an Invitation to
go as a body with tho class of 1000 to
the commencement exercises, to bo
held In Enterprise hall on June C. Tho
Invitation was accepted. By resolu
tion It was decided that Mr. Pilte.li

present the diplomas to the members
of tho olass at tho graduating exer

many years has resided in this bor
ough, wheie she was held In the high
est esteem by a large circle of fi lends.
She Is RUivlved by two sisters, Mrs.
Elizabeth Knight and Mrs. Jane
Lands, of England; a brother, James
Williams, of California; a daughter,
'Mis. William Rowe, of this borough,
with whom she made her home, and
nine grandchildien. Tho funeral will
take place tomorrow afternoon, Fer

Episcopal church at 3 o'clock.

sum deducted from tho officer's salary.
The bills of Auditors G. B. Reed and

Electric company was read. They of
fered to pay the boiough one cent for
each burned out lamn. There being
somo thice bundled burned out lamps
on hand, council Instructed the engi
neers to forwaid the lamps to the
above company. Mr. F. L. Northrup.

offered to put chase a meter at his own
expense If council would allow him to
use the same In the electric light ser
vice. Council would not grant the
pilvllege and Mr. Noithrup requested
that the lights be cut out. To bring
the lights down to a more leasonable
babls council will nllow consumers to
use eight-candle-power lamps In bed
rooms and cellars at rate of 10 cents
each, piovidlng that the number of
eight-candle-power lamps does not ex
ceed the number of slxteen-candle-powe-
lamps on the premises, also that
the table showing the candle-power
must be" left on tho lamps, If not slx-teen-candle-power
or higher will be
chaiged. It was stated that several
of tho consumers who are threatening
to cut out their lights on account of
tho 20 cents per lamp uniform rate
now In force, weie willing to contract
at a 25 cents per lamp rate when the
plant first started. The collector was
authorized to collect for all sockets
connected up, the same as though they
were in use. that consumers if they
wish to reduce their number of lights
must disconnect the sockets. The un
llghted portion of Main street leading
to the Olyphant bridge was ordered to
be lit up with Incandescent lights. The
Mount Jessup Coal company offered
fuel at 4." cents per ton Tho Dela
ware, Lackawanna and Western com
panj olfered to transpoit the fuel for
25 cents per ton, making a total of 70
cents per ton, as count il Is paying $1
per net ton. This would be a sa Ing
of 30 cents per ton. Before the offer
