Under this heading short letters of In terest will bo published when uceompa. nled. for publication, by tho wrltor't name. The Tribune does not assume re sponsibility for opinions hete expressed Boundy vs. Grant. Editor of Tho Tribune. Sir: A letter bent to the Republican last week, tlmllnr to tho ono ou pub lished for me, wus for some reason, best known to tho editor, excluded from tho columns of that paper. I do not wish to Judgo too lijbtlly or too harshly on this act, but at first sIMit it looks llko u piece of lopsldcdnes3 altogether Incon sistent with a paper which professes to be fair to all. Tho said letter contained no personal abuse, It dealt only with pub lie affairs and public men as such, un this account no fair-minded editor should exclude It, especially as It was signed by tho w i Iter. In today's Republican, In the Jermyn news column, there Is what purports to bo a reply to that letter. It contains the correspondent's first nttack on me and my veracity. Now I enn stand a good deal of abuse from tho Republican's cor respondent, having been under tho pub. He trae r, good many yenrs. I seldom suffer from stage fright, und never will under a newspaper puragrnph. Never theless, I like tho public to know where 1 stand and on what I stand. In regard to the questions at I sane I will still maintain that It was not only Improper but Illegal for Mayfleld's ex-treasurer to pay any accounts without orders from council. I admit that nt tho tlmo of tho council's organization last March there was a. ques tion ns to tho right of one of tho council men to take his seat. J3ut In the light of tho fact that court heard tho ease nnd did not unseat him, It must bo conceded that the acts of tho majority of tho council were binding and thus my election rs treasuicr was perfectly legal. About that time tho Republican correspondent snld a good deal about tho Illegality nf three men doing the borough business, vhen thero wero really four; yet In to day's letter ho defends tho ucts of the other thiec In notlfvltiff tho ex-treasurer not to piv any money to mo ns perfectly legitimate. A fulr sample of his Incon sistency. Now n few words regarding the reflemp tlin of tlioo seven bonds tbreu months after I wns fleeted treasurer. John W. Orant snvs: "Heforo lldmunds' caso wns settled the bonds fell due and the treas urer redeemed them." I wns treasurer then nnd I did not redeem them. These bonds wcro redeemed Jun 3, 1S00. One of them vould luivo fallen duo July IE, iwi. and tho other six would not have fallen due until July 15. 1000 Now this 3 a lint contradiction to drnnt's statement. Urnnt Is well known In this vicinity, t.o nm 1. Tho public have a rlrht to decide which Is telllt.s tho truth. Hut I have tho docu incut In mv posej"lon nt present to shew tint I nm right: what has Qiant to rhow? Ihe correspondent further sns tint the ainlltets' report for lS-aa fully contin diets my statements Thnt Is n'it to bo wondered at. It nlso contradicts Mr. Walker's statements, which may bo a rurpilro to Mr. Grant. Tho c-trcasurcr Tdmlts having rcdnmed tho bonds Juno 3. 1VU; the auditors' report shows that they were redeemed previous to Mirrh W And tho bank books corroborate Mr. Walker's ndmU'ton, So much for tho audlteis' reliability. Now If tho corrcpnndent wishes to nbuso me or my methods nnd therebv amuso himself, let him fire away, but stick to the truth and ho will not hurt. Yours truly, Thomas Boundy. Jermvn, P.I., Feb. II.
