The fire alarm tung in last evening at
6 o'clock was caused bv a lamp ex
plosion in the house of Ike liuu.is, of
Park stieet. Columbia Hose company,
Nn. C. responded, but did not turn on

Funeral of the Late James Prior.
Accident at the New Shaft Last
Evening Pay Day.
The funeral of the late James Prior
took place esterday afternoon and
was largely attended. After a bilet
service nt the house the remains were
taken to the Methodist Hplscopnl
church where Impressive services were
conducted by the pastor, Hev. J. B.
Cook, assisted by Rev. Maynnrd It.
Thompson, of the First Baptist church,
and Mr. F. It. Gill. The latter, who
had been Intimately acquainted with
the deceased for the past thirty years,
spoke most feelingly nnd paid tho dead
mnn n high tribute for his honorable
and upright life. At the conclusion of
the service the lemnlns wete taken to
tho borough cemetery where Interment
was made. The pallbearers were: Sam
uel "Waters, William L.mgman, Wil
liam Taj lor, Thomas PrVnn, George
Cudllp nnd James Tucker, and the
llower bearer, Frank Couch. There
weie a number of out of town relatives

John Klddlck, a Hungarian laborer,
while engaged nt woik in the Glen
wood shaft last evening, was seilous
ly injured by a fall of rock. Tho slab
which fell upon the unfortunate man
nlmost bulled him and It requiied the
services of seveial men for some time
to lelease him from underneath the
lock. As soon as this was nccomplMi
"d he was taken outside to the engine
house, where Dr. P. C. Manley was
awaiting to attend him. He received
a severe cut on one of his legs Just
below the knee and was suffering con
sldeiably from loss of blood nnd shock.
He was afterwards taken to the hos
pital. The Injured man, who Is mar
ried, resides on the hill at Maylleld,
nnd has worked In the colliery a num
ber of years.
Tho employes of the Delawarcand
Hudson colliery will receive their pay
today.

The funeral of the late Mrs. Richard
Cole took plaeo yesterday morning. A

It was a laiEe audience which en
teied the Gaiety theatio last evening
to see "A Tiip to the City," tho attinc

gusted nnd considerably diminished
audience which left at the end of the

Manager Walsh has decided to have
the house darkened for the rest of the

The company Itself was not so bid,
ns was tho vehicle used by them to dis
play their talents. It wns no mere
builesque show, but aiming hlsher,
took the dimly defined outlines of a
faice-comedy. At tho end of the first
net the audience looked surprised,

restless and evidenced Its wouiment
by hlslng the brave effoits of Miss
Ann Tlnuc to sing a pathetic ballad.
