Martin Ferguson Badly Injured in Pine Brook Mines. Martin Ferguson, a young man of about IS years of age, who lives in Johnson's Patch, was taken to tho Lackawanna hospital about 4,30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Ferguson works In the Pino Brook mines, and, while at his labors yesterday, was squeezed between two cars and badly Injured. At the hospital It was ascertained that he was suffering fiom a fracture of tho base of tho skull, and from a uepresseu irnciure 01 mu occiput. An operation wns performed on him and he was resting easily last evening. Besides tho injuries mentioned, Fer guson's whole system was badly Jarred and shaken up. Ernest Young, the ten-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Young, of Larch street, was badly Injured Mon day by a railroad car passing ovor his left leg. The boy, together with somo com rades, was going homo from school and had to pass a Delaware and Hudson switch where a freight train was lying. Tho boys crawled under tho car and had all gone through successfully with tho exception of Young. As the latter was on tho tracks, an engine bumped Into tho cars, causing tho wheels to pass over the boy's left leg. Somo train-hands picked the lad up and car ried him to his home, nearby. Medical aid was Immediately called, and Drs. Longstrect, Allen nnd Saltry responded. ' Common Pleas Court. Judgo Cyrus Gordon, of Clearfield county, yesterday entered upon the task of trying the complicated case of J. Stanley Smith and Cornelius Smith against F. E. Loomls and John H. Fellows, which I as been before tho courts In one form or another for a number cf venrs. The plaintiffs appear for themselves and are csslsted by Georgo M. Wat son. H. M. Hannah and Hon. H. W. Palmer represent tho defendants. It Is likely the case will occupy the whole week. In the case of J.W. Guernsey against W. C. Froud and others, tho Jury, yesterday afternoon, returned a ver dict In favor of the defendants, after having been out two hours. The clos ing addresses were made respectively by John F. Scragg for tho plaintiff, and Ralph Levy for tho defendants. Tho case of T. B. Jackson against Ira T. Barber was given to tho Jury at 3 o'clock, but no agreement had been reached up to adjourning time. The case of Mary Barrett against John Palmer Is on trial before Judge Archbald. The plaintiff sues to recov er damages from the defendant for appropriating stone from a wall sur rounding her property In Carbondale.
