Rooms. In the headquarters of the Young Men's Christian association yesterday afternoon, John P. Qulnn gave a tilk on gambling aid Incidentally exposed, by practical Illustrations, the way peo ple are fleeced and swindled by pro fessional cuid players. At 2.30 o'clock Rev. Robert F. Y, Pierce, of the Penn Avenue Baptist church, introduced Mr. Qulnn to the audience, which was com posed of several prominent Scranton divines and a laigj number of laymen, who had sti oiled In to see the pro ceedings. After the opening prayer by Rev. Mr. Pierce,. Mr. Qulnn expressed his desire to start a crusade to blot out all the gambling dens of this city. He then proceeded to expose eard-tUcks, by pro duel g a pack of cards, and asking some one to shuffle for him. An amus ing incident took placo here, as there was an embaias-sed halt ns none of the clerical gentlemen knew how to porfoun the feat. One of the laymen present, o'un teered his services, and Mr. Qulnn than dealt seveinl bunds, and on eveiv oc casion knew what Ills opponent held, almost before the latter did himself. He then exposed the game of rouge et nolr, and followed this up by an Illustration ot the roulette wheel on n small scale. After this he mystified his spectators by working the old, but neveitheless powerful shell game on them. Illustrations of games usual'y practiced by strolling gumblers at country falls, circuses and tho like, were given and Mr. Qulnn performed some remarkable feats with dice. After the expose the ministers con sidered whether or not they should collaborate with Qulnn nnd take ac tive measures to drive the gamblers out of this city. After much debate, It was decided to draw un a set of resolutions. Accordingly, the following Bet was adopted: We, tho undersigned pastors of Scran ton churches and Chilstijn workers hav Ing heard John P. Qulnn, examined hl credentials and his methods of exposing tho nature of gambling devices, he-tby heartily endorse him and his work, und i (.quest tho Young Men's Christian asso ciation to ariangu a public meeting lor Sunday afternoon, November 19, at S.30 o'clock. v Robert F.
