Wall Street Review, New York, Aug, 11. Tho stock mar ket made some show of nctlvlly and strength In tho early dealings today hut tho movement has about exhausted Ittelf before the end of tho first hour. The heavy tone In many railroad BtocKs affected the industrial spec ialties which helped tho bears. Tho innt'ktt refused to go up again nnd drifted quite aimlessly for the rest of tho day, the volume of business falling to the lowest ebb. Tho stocks which made the early activity were the Iron nnd steel nnd leather stocks. Some of the former group had quite handsome net gains remaining at tho close of tho day. Federal steel and Colorado fuel being tho only ones In the group to show net losses. Tennessee Coal wns still foremost in tho movement nnd touched 8311,4. but failed to make Its net gain a whole point. There wns a tremndous scramble to take on IT. H. Leather and the price touched 10. Fraetlcally tho whole of Its gain was wiped out In n realizing movement nnd the preferred stock lapsed below hits night. There were a few strong spots In the railroad list, notably hl cago, Great Western debentures, which are up 1-H and Missouri, Kansas & Tex as both common nnd preferred. Otegon Navigation lost 2 of Its recent rise. A few rnllrond stocks showed frac tional gains but the gcnerul tone wns heavy. Totul sales 400,000. Movements In bonds were sluggish and Irregular nnd business was not largo. Total sales par value $1,093,0.00. U. S. new 4s advanced U In the bid price.
