There was a gieat deal of talk ing and Kicking over the ball which Umpire Moran ruled out. Druuby was fined. About 300 spectators saw the Scran tons go down before Heading yes terday by a score of 9 to C. It was a poor exhibition of ball. The game was featuied by considerable kicking over a ball. It cost Drauby a five spot for calling Umpire Moran an "old stiff." The Scranton, team had several changes In its makeup, which added some to her defeat. Knoll was not in his position on account of illness, so Lippert went to centre, and Flanaghan to light; McMahon was not at short, owing to sickness In his family and Hlsley played the position with much ciedlt. The batting order was also changed, Hlsley batting in Knoll's place and Flanaghan In Hlsley's place. Hodson pitched good ball until the ninth, but received poor suppoit. The fielding of the homo team was erratic, indeed. Stauch, our new second baseman, did not make any showing yesterday worthy of mention. Fertch pitched well for Heading, but was relieved in the ninth by Murphy, who udded one run to the visitors' fccore. Heading went to bat first and made three runs in the first Inning and made ro more until the seventh, when Cock man scored one by a two base hit, a tly to Eagan and un error by Rlsley. In the ninth, they used Hodson quite oadly and touched him for five runs, making their total nine. Scranton did not score until the fourth, when Lippert by making a sin gle, going to third on an error of Chllds, scored on the error by Fox. In the fifth and Blxth Inning wo scored luo runs each and one In the ninth oy Eagan. Hlsley's playing at shoit in tho fourth Inning was very fast, Indeed. Speculation In stocks bus evidently reached a sort of equatoilal line, and is hopelessly be calmed in tho doldrums, Willi not enough headway to indlcuto In which dliectlon its com so shall he llnally shaped. Deal ings today continued profoundlv dull, and outside of inovtmenls of u lew spe cial stocks which were influenced by in dividual causes the day's cvft.ts were Inconsequential. As la only natural In a market where tho buying demand is practically nil, the drift of prices was downward, even wllh a very small body of offerings to weigh on the market. Total sales, 34.',500. l'rices of railroad bonds tended to fall but business In them wus almost as quiet as that In stocks. Total tales par value, 1.99j,000. U. S. 3'a coupon di lined Vi, nnd the old 1's coupon advanced 'i in tho bid price. By Carrlngton & Cusack. New York, June 19. Tho feature at tho opening was tho weakness In the Steel stocks. Steel and Wire fell 3 per cent, on rumors that there would bo no divi dend on tho common stock this month. Federal Steel declined in sympathy, but was bought on the scale. Tennesseo Coal and Iron was a partic ularly strong featuro In tho face of the general weakness of tho other Steel stocks. It looks to us as If Steel and WIro might bo a purchase around theso prices. Wo aro Inclined to think that the decline has shakon out a good deal of long stock and to a certain extent strengthen Its position In the market. Flower broke! s were moderate buyers In Federal Steel, and -he general Impres slon seems to be that the belling was to a certain extent the putting out of short lines, all of which will have to bo cov ered, possibly at higher prices, Tho market Is very narrow and tho trading continued almost entirely to tho professionals, bo that it Is hard to judge, nt tho samo time, we seo no reason to chango our opinion that for tho tlmo be ing It Is a tiadlng market, and should bo purchased when weak, like today on sales for 2 or 3 points. Tin Plate was quite freelv tipped for a dccllno on the story published of a pos sible operation to the company, our ad vices aro that the company Is in excel lent financial condition, and that It has in hand more oulers than thev can pos sibly fill within the next two years, nnd wo seo no reason to chango our opinion on tho ultlmnto outcome. Tho market closed dull and Irregular at slight iccover above the lowest prices of tho day.
