COAL CIRCULAR FOR MONTH OF MAY WILL BE ISSUED BY DELAWARE AND HUDSON TODAY. Prices Aro Lower Than. They Wero in tho May Circular of One Year Ago Idea Is to Stimu.nte tho Summer Sales At This Tlmo Very Pew of the Coal Yards Aro Stocked Places That Will Be Mainly Affected by iue New Prices. Tho May coal circular will be Issued today by the Delaware and Hudson company. This circular llxes prices of four grades of coal at four out of the six largo re-shipping points on tho Susquehanna, Saratoga and Cham plain division and Its connections such as cooperstovvn, Charlotte Valley atrd Adlroudacks. Tho circular will say that at Albany, Troj-, Schenectndy nnd Mechaulcsvllle the prices to govern onlj dur ing the month of Mny nnd go ing into effect May 1 will be ns follows: Grate, $3.35; egg, $3.G"; stove and chestnut, $3.91; all per gross ton. As to whether these pi ices will hold good after May ol is a matter of option with the company. Comparing tho above prices with those In oguo under the May, 1S9S, circular, a decided decrease is evident. One year ago at the above points grato was $3.70, egg and chestnut, $3.03, and stove, $4 20. Thus on grato there Is a decrense of thirty-five cents and on the other grade-? a proportionate de crease. TO STIMULATE SALES. The dliect intention or purpose of this decrease is to stimulate tho sum mer sales. So far as 13 known, there aro very fovv sales yards stocked to meet any thing bej'ond a small demand. The companj' has not begun Its annual stocking jet. If the output Is large It natura'ly follows that the men will be cm plojcd more hteadlly and on longer tlmo schedules. Another phase which Is not so appar ent to tho general public but which Is of moment nevertheless Is the effect that this decrease will have on tho much talked of combination. As one official was heard to remark: "There may not be so much In that combina tion after all." The places directly affected so far as sales are concerned In connection with the above mentioned towns which are known as main rc-shlpping points, are as follows: Schenectady All points along Drlo canal and a portion of the New York Cential load. Troj Srnia points along the Kitchburg sjstem and a portion of tho New York Central road. Mechanlcsvllle Other points ion tho Fltchburg sv stem not coverc d from Troy. Albany All points along the Boston and Albany, Delaware and Hudson and for eign roads est of Albanj". MARKET TS LARGE. At every one of these te-shlpplng points tho market is a large one, and that Is why much Is expected for the suninipr sales. Rlnbhamton, Elmlra and Utlcn the otner In go ro-shlpplng points, have not jet been given their prices for tho month of Maj Utlca prices ate practically at ranged by the agents at that point, while In tho case of the other two more care has to be used. These tv.o polnt3 are so Intimately connected with other coal roads and are so near tho coal shipping center that It takes some time longer to make tho adjustment However, Dlnghamton prices may be arranged Itr a day or two, aim Elmlra and Utlea prices before the week Is up COSTLY FIRE AT PRICEBURG. LOT OF JACOBS' CIGARS Havo Been Unearthed in This Part of tho Stato by Revenue Collec tor T. P. Penman Contain Counterfeit Stamps. Over 19,000 of the famous Jacobs & Co. cigars have been unearthed in this district and aro now In the possession of Revenue Collector T. F. Penman. Mr. Penman found a 9,400 lot In a. As j-et none have been located In this city, although Deputy Collector J. W. Mc Donald spent all of yesterday in search of them. The cigars that are supposed to con tain tho counterfeit stamp wero sent out by five Lancaster fnctorles: Mr. Jacobs & Co., No. 3741; Kendlg Cigar company, No. 459: the Postal Cigar companj', Eaglo Cigar company and Cash Cigar companj. Tho last three are fictitious concerns and have no fac torj numbers. The government officers have secured the books of these concerns nnd wltl be able to trace every cigar that anj of the companies havo sent out. In view of this fact, Collector Penman advises the dealers In this district to carefully examine their stock to see If they have on hand any cigars made bj- these firms. For concealing such cigars there Is a maximum penalty of JjOO line and three jcars in Jail. As tho factories In question did not use counterfeit stamps altogether, it Is possible that manj' of tho cigars being confiscated will be found to bear genu ine stamps, In which case they will be returned to the dealer from whom they were taken. If they boar tho counter felt stamp the dealer will have to stand the lo.s. NINE-YEAR-OLD GIRL THIEF. Stole nn Arm Full of Shoes fiom in Tront of a Store.
