Upon his coming here he found the rhurch prop erty which had been purchased a short time previous to his coming encum bered with a $2,000 debt and through earnest work and careful management he has been able to reduce this to $1,000. Necessary repairs have been made on the property, adding to the beauty of the Interior and exterior, and a new organ was recently put In place. About forty new families havo been enrolled In the church, and the congre gation has grown to nearly twice Its sire under his fostering care. Rev. Mr. Llsse established a Saturday afternoon school for the children of his parish, In which religious Instructions und German reading and writing arc given under his personal tutorage. The new charge to which Rev. Llsse has been called la one of the ltrgest In the Pennsylvania synod of German Lutherans. The Pennsylvania synod Is the oldest In the country, being or ganized over 130 years ago by Muhlen lenburg, founder of tho Muhlenberg college.
