FALSE TO HIS TRUST.
At Least, H. P. Schloss Is So Ac
cused by Miss Anthony.
II. P. Schloss, of South Scianton,
was arrested yesterday on a warrant
Issued by Alderman Howe, the Inform
ation for which was furnished by Miss
Edith Anthony, of Penn avenue. De
fendant appeared befoto tho alderman,
waived a hearing and entered ball in
the sum of $200. Ho was chatged with
latceny.
Miss Anthony, the nggrlevcd paity
to the suit, stated that early in Feb
ruary she hnd loaned defendant a
black cocker spaniel which was alued
at fifteen dollars. Defendant not only,
sho alleged, refuses to return the dog,
hut does not account for It, and she
believes that lie has made some dis
position of the animal for his own
proilt.

His Leg Was Ftnctured by a Large
Piece of Oie Falling on It.
John Patrick, employed as a laborer
at the blast furnace, met with a pain
ful accident yesteiday morning while
ut work unloading some ore. A huge
piece 1 oiled over against him, thiew

below the knee.
The injured man was temoved to the
Moses Taylor hospltnl, wheie the frae

ful but not serious.

lect; that he received 11 greater num
ber of votes but they weie not count
ed. A recount of the votes, he be
lieves, will show that he was elected
and to secure this ho pioposes to enter
a contest.

Judge R. W. Archbald has been called
to Tioga count to pass upon the mer
its of an application for a llijuor license
that Is Just now agitating that peaceful
county fiom stem to stern.
It is the llrst time In years that an
application foi a license for a neiv
house has been made In that county,
and, as may be supposed, the matter
is not to be lightly disposed of.
There is a strong opposition to grant
ing the piajed for license, and, as Judge
Mitchell of that dlstilct is 11 relative of
tho applicant, he deemed It Injudicious
on his part to pass upon tho case. He

of the estimates committee of coun
cils that Chairman Luther Keller has
called tho Hist meeting for Fnday
evening next.
A draft ol the ordinance containing
fill the appropriations asked for Is In
the hands of the printer and will be
ready for the committee's study when
they come together. As $00,000 must
be lopped off tho cstlmites, the com
mittee will have Its usual difficult task.
This year's committee Is composed of
Selectmen Wagner, Sanderson, Cojne,
Williams and Frable and Commoners
Keller, Oliver, Reese and Wlrth. Mr.
Wenzel was on this committee and
under the custom which ge net ally ob
tains his successor In council Mr.
Naegll will take his plaee on the com

Dr. John Corser Is to Leave the
Lackawanna Hospital.
Dr John Corser, senior resident phy
sician at the Lackawanna hospital,

In the coal shed of Lawience Haber
Rtioh, n liurnessmaker, of D10 Cedar
avenue, South Scinnton, a dynamite
bomb was found yesteiday morning.
Mr. Ilnbet stroh, shortly after open
ing his place of business, dispatched an
employe of the shop, Peter Bohr, to
the coal bin, instiuctlnt: him to bilng
a pall of coal. Tho young man Immedi
ately obeyed, and lna few moments
he returned. Mr. Haberstroh took the
coal, otienod the largo stove, and was
about to deposit the major portion of
the contents ot the pall, when the bomb
was sighted.
It was a piece of steel, one and one
half Inches in length, thlec-quarteis of
un inch In diameter, nnd weighing
seven ounce s. The curious little Instru
ment was removed and examined.
At the mouth of the bomb, which
was thrce-elnhths of an inch In diam
eter, was a cap, that was carefully re
moved from its position.
Lieutenant of 'Police Zang wns hand
ed the much-dreaded Instrument last
night. Mr. Hnbei stroh is at a loss to
undo! stand why the bomb was placed
in ins co.u tun.
About a month ftgo the neighborhood
above "Dutch Hollow." near Mountain
L-tke. known as the "Hill of Hell," was
alaimed by the finding 0f dynamite
bombs In tho coal-sheds of Mrs. Grcen
wald and Mrs. Hellermait. Tho bomb
found by Mrs Hellermnn was vastly
different in construction than the one
deposited in Habotstroh's shed.
Tho day in question, Mrs. Hellerman,
when engaged in getting coal, found
two pieces of wood nniled tightly to
gether. She opened it nnd found a
heavy chaige of dynamite. The mat
ter was called to tho attention of the
police, but no arrests weie made. The
bomb placed in the shed of Mrs. Gieen
wald was not discovered until it was
brought in contact with the led-hot
coals in the family range.

OBITUARY.
Peter Fie, father of Mrs. Luther
Keller, of this city, died at his home
in Portland, Pa., on Sunday night at
the nge of 75, after an Illness which
extended over a period of eight years.
He was a man of unusual Intelligence
and noble ehatuctei. For many years
he had been engaged In large Interests
connected with lumber nnd slate, and
was at one time Identified In business
with E. P. Kingsbuiy nnd the late W.
W. Manness, of this city. He had been
married foity-eight jears, and Is sur
vived by his wife and their only child.
A peculiarly sad fentuie of the afflic
tion was that dlng he deslted to see
this only daughter, but Mrs. Keller
was too 111 to go to his bedside. The
funeial will take place tomorrow from
his late leaidence at Poitland.
Mrs. Chailes Sehneiler, of Plltston
avenue, South Scranton, died Sundnv
at the home of her ptients, Mr. and

James Mullen, a prominent resident
of Archbald, died Sunday morning after
a brief Illness. He Is survived bv his
wife and two daughters. The latter
are Mrs. John Regan, of this city, and
Miss Mary Mullen, a teacher In the
Archbald public schools. The funeral

Lock Haven, Pn Feb. 27. Tho
Northumbeiland Presbytery met hera
today and dissolved tho pastoral re
lationship between Rev. S. W. Pomeroy
and the Bald Ragle and NIttanny Val
ley charge, which he has held for
thlitecn years. He resigned to make
his home in Hairlsburg.
During the Civil war Mr. Pomeroy
was a scout and carried from Chant
beisburg to Port Royal Judge Kim
mell's message that Lee's aim? was
Invading Pennsylvania. From the lat
ter point he telegraphed the news to
