The Question Is Being Agitated in This City The question of opening n number of night schools in this city is receiv ing considerable attention Just at pre sent. Last year Ihe residents of Hel niont street school district hail one of th"in opened in the Belmont street school and it proved a great success. Where there Is n petition signed by twenty taxpayers of a district sent to the board asking that a school be opened the directors must comply. The opening of the school will mean a large expense, but that can hardly be taken into consideration when tho learning of a number of residents Is nt stake. It cost about forty dollars a month to maintain the school in the Belmont street building lest winter. The board rimy hold a session tonight for the purpose of considering tho mat ter, which they believe of vital im portance. It Is said tho secretary has a number of petitions to present should the meeting materialize. SPORTING NOTES. The people Interested In outdoor sports will remember Michael Mooney's defeating Milton Salmon in a HO-ynrd clash In this city some months ago. That Mr. Salmon Is a. fast sprinter Is evidenced by the fact that he, at the annual fall meeting of tho track team at Lafayette college, Nov. ", won tho second heat In tho 220-yard dash: was fourth Jn the u-yard dash; second In the 440-yard run; and was one of the fourteen who, having won first and second place, will form the track team. Samuel Arnold, one of Peckvllle's oldest residents, dropped dead of heart failure while passing the Mott Haven house at about (1 o'clock last evening. Deceased was on his way home at Mott Haven, and while walking along sud denly dropped to the ground, and hy the tlmo assistance could reach him he had breathed his last. The Streng Brothers have had Is sued a summons In ejectment against Jnmes Corcoran, who recently caused to have erected a stone wall upon a strip of land, which they, the Strengs, claim as their property. The erection of this particular wall was accom plished between two days and was no ticed at length In this paper when tho work was done, nnd, of course, they knew what they were about when they put the rather novel scheme Into ef fect. The Corcorans nre confident that they arc light, but it Is evident that the court will have to decide the mat ter.
