The testimony of only two witnessed were heard last evcnfhg. These wero Jacob Miller, of Petersburg, and Police Patrolman Roland. Miller testified to the appearance of Phillips soon after his beating on the night of Nov. 1, and to Meyers having remarked on that night that ho had "done up the ," meaning Phil lips. Patrolman Roland testified to the condition of Phllllpo when he was found Nov. 7 pnrtly unconscious on the Cedar avenue bridge.
