Warts are a peculiar gtuMli, and, asl lo from tho Inconvenience occasioned by them, ifre certainly most unsightly. In the- South whenever we children showed ono or more of these disfigurations on our hands, our old black mammy would pay, "Hun playlu wld eletn frogs er'gln, Is you? I gwl tell Miss Lou. Come "long here', honey, an' lwn me tako um off fo' you gets or hoopln'. How your gwi took In dat line white dress wld dem things nil over your liar's?" Forthwith mammy would slip Into tho store-room, steal n piece of fat bacon, for In no case would the charm work If tho fat were given, rub It mysteriously over tho wart and then, lnt-icad of throw ing tho remnant away, she would bury It under an old log. These bacon burials were very solemn affairs to us always; we llrmly believed the ceremony had as much to do with the instcnous van ishing of the warts, eis the greajo, be cause of mamn.y's faith In it, you know, and the result which was Invariably n success. Itut In later years, being beret t of dear old mammy, and my childhood superstitions, I have left off all tho sor eerous part of It, and tried only tho rub bing with bacon, with the Mime result. Only ono rubbing la sullleient. Tho disappearance Is so gradual, one never takes note of it, until, some line day, you look for tho wart and it Is gone. Wheth. er It Is the sa?t, or the grease, or both, that is so fatal to these curious forma tions, I am not prepared to Eay. AN ACTRESS. Few people stop to consider the life of constant physical exposure of the actress. Ceaseless travel, late hours Irregular meals, continual change of climate- and exposure to draughts in stage costumes. And yet she must be In the best of health and spirits to do her very dlfllcult work properly. How does she do It? Dr. Hartman's Invari able advice to these people is, keep the feet warm, sleep In well ventilated rooms, and keep a' bottle of Pe-ru-na constant ly at hand. At the llrst sign of catching cold take a dose of Pe-ru-na. Af ter fcomo un avoidable exposure to cold, don't wait for the cold to appear, but tako a doso or two of Pe-ru-na as a preventative. These women profit by the Doctor's advice. Hence their good health In spite of their constant exposure. This holds true of all people who are liable to catch cold. Anyone who Is depressed by overwork, loss of sleep, or irregular habits, are especially liable to take cold. Pe-ru-na taken In time will pre vent this.
