Leonard 1'ootc's HuHct-l'roof Composition Resists ."Missiles from Winchester und Krng-Jorgcnson Guns. New York, Nov. 5. A public exhibi tion was given In tho Twenty-third regiment armory In Brooklyn today by W. Leonard Foote, Inventor of the "bullet proof auto-dynamic armor" and was witnessed by several foreign olll cials and others Interested In armor. A "Winchester and a Krag-Jorgensen rifle were used In the test and a block of the armor about 2Vi Inches thick was used. A number of bullets weio fired at It, but lu no case did any of them go through or leave a mark of en trance. Mr. Footo previous to the ex hibition stated that a similar material had been used tlnee years ago, but since that time It had been Improved. It Is now perfect, according to a ?i lnch gun shield of hard steel and does not require the same amount of caro to keep It from rusting or bcaling a.; steel does. It Is lighter than steel, weighing less than half ns much. Previous to tho test of Mr. Foote's material, n, Krag-Jorgensen rllle was used on a Ji-lnch plate. The bullet wont through it, as It also did thtougri fifty pine boards eight feet thick. In tho case of the Inventor's material, the bullet fiom the Krag-Jorgensen rlllo penetrated, but after It did so the hole closed, entirely, leaving an un broken surface, the bullet remaining in the shield- The Winchester failed to penetrate. Mr. Footo after the test had been pronounced a success, stated that his invention Is about 00 per cent, lighter in the ratio of resistance than steel for ships armor shields. When penetrated by bullets the puncture in stantly closes, thus keeping out the water. The material Is non-magnetic, according to the Inventor, it Is especial ly valuable for use on the bridges of naval vessels for shields. Count Goet zen, a military attache at Washington, and General D. T. Mertwago, of the Russian navy, were present nt tho ex hibition. SENATOR W0LC0TT RETURNS.
