That tho entire Republican county ticket will be elected today Is con ceded privately by well-informed Dem ocrats; but they hopo tho pluiallties will bo small, so they can claim a moral victory for Itryantsm and freo silver. It rests with Republicans to cancel tills hope and clinch for year. to como Republican supremacy in Lackawanna county by getting out tho complete party vote. Rout out tho stny-nt-homes lino up tho wavering Let's make this victory a stunner! GRAND JURY AND CONSTADLES. Court's Attention Was Devoted to Them All of Vesterdny Morning. The grand jury met yesterdny morn ing, listened to Judge Edwards' chnrgo and then adjourned until "Wednesday morning, it being suggested by the courf that as there were not many eases to be considered, It would be just as well to begin work after elec tion day, when their task could bo completed without encountering an in terruption. John J. Monahan. of Car bondule, was made foreman. Constables' returns were also re ceived. The only matter referred to tho district attorney was two tippling house keepers In the Thirteenth ward, Sirs. Mary E. Conroy and Hridget Ruano, complained of by Constable William S. Hlack. He also reported that Delaware street and Sanderson avenue have been torn up and left in bad condition bv the Traction com pany. JAMES S. DEACO M. From tho Wilkes-Uarre Record. Tho Republican candidate for stato treasurer has. In a manner, been compelled to bear uraeticallv the. ml Ire hrnm f lit tle In tho present ronitmlcn. lllu nniv ,...! league on the state ticket, Major MeCau- iey, was entirely unopposed In tho con vention, and It has been apparent through out the campaign that such dlsaltcetlon as thero was inside the party extended only to .Mr. Iiracom and did not in tho slightest degree affect Slnjor SleCauley. mo bn-ciucu niuepimients, who are sup porting Sir. Thompson for state treasurer, have no candidate of their own and mako no secret of tho fact that they will vote for SleCauley. Tho Huslness Slen'n leaguo heaitlly endorsed him but made no reference whi.tevcr In their resolutions to Sir. Heacom. Tlioto Republicans who contemplate voting for Dr. Swallow will at tho same time vote for SleCauley. o It will thus ho seen that all tho opposi tion has been directed alone at the Re publican cai.t Mate for state treasurer, and this Is not due to any valid objection to Sir. Heacom personally, for ho is ad mittedly nn upright, honest man on whoso record thero is not the slightest stain. He Is thus singled out for opposition because ho has stood with Senator Quay In some of his faction contests. For anti-Quay Republicans to oppose Sir. Heacom on that account Is to show tho same hot fac tional spirit which they condemn in Sen ator Quay and his adherents. If Mr. Htticom wero an unworthy or unlit man for tho olllco that would be n defensible cause for oppoilng him, but no such charge Is made against him. On the con trary, his record In public and private llfo Is equal to that of tho bust. Republicans cannot afford to antagonize duly and fair ly nomlnuteit candidates of their party -olely on tho groi nl of Quayism or antl Quaylsm. If tho party should split on that lino It would become a hopeless minority even in Pennsylvania. Personal worth should count for something among thosa of tho Republican faith. James S. Hea com Is entitled to the united vote of his party und should receive it. Peck, deceased, was called up before Judge Edwards yesterday afternoon. I. II. Hums nnd C. E, Olver appear for the plaintiffs nnd S. H. Price for the de fendant. Tlie matter In dispute is a slxteen acro plot of coal land In Peckvllle, and the -cause of the land being in dispute is the changing of the bed of the Lack awanna river. It was mapped out by two different surveys, one of them made nearly half a century ago and tho other some twenty-five years ago. Both of these surveys had as their starting station the bank of the Lack awanna river. That a survey made now does not Jibe with either of these former surveys Is not to be wondered nt. This discrepancy leaves sixteen ncres that both parties lay claim to. The case was still on at adjournment and Is likely to take up tho greater portion of tomorrow. The only other case set down on this week's equity list Is that of Louisa Lyman against Lewi." Smith.
