Bennett Stand ford, who has just returned from tak ing pait In an expedition to Somali land, brings news of the annihilation at the end of June of an Abyssinian army of 3,000 men under tho control of the famous general, Ras Mackonnen. Mr. Standford said today: "While In the Interior we came across a powerful Somali chief who had Just returned from the fight. He told that the Abyssinian force had been raiding down the Webbe-Shebeyll river. The Somalls "then overwhelmed them, al lowing only sixty men to go back with tho news of the defeat. Ras Mackon nen was killed. Tho affair occurred about one hundred miles from where we were. The whole neishboihood is still greatly excited." ROCKAFELLOW SENTENCED.
