The residents who are supplied with water In the district lying northeast of Jackson street, below Main avenue, weio suddenly deprived of their sup ply yesterday. This fact occasioned some surprise as no notice of a shut ting off had been given. The mystery was soon explained when It was made known that the water main had been broken by a blast, fired in the ex cavations now being made on Chest nut street for a sewer The strata hero Is rock entire and thus necessitates blasting. The boy was playing with some companions on Hampton street, near Ninth street, and as the wagon came along he at tempted to get on a side step attached to the wagon body, between the two wheels. Thomas Grlflln, a young man resid ing on William street, and employed In the Von Storch mine as runner, had a miraculous escape from death late yesteiday afternoon. He was run ning a trip of cars to the foot of the shaft and while thus employed he stumbled and before he could recover himself he was caught between the cars and rib. His face was badly cut and he sustained several bad gashes about the head. He was taken to his home, where his wounds were dressed. Mr. and Mrs. David Davis, of North Main avenue, are suffering from, an attack of pneumonia. Rev. W V. Davis leaves this morn ing for Danville, Pa., to be present at the Jubilee anniversary tomorrow of the Welsh Baptist church at that place. Stephens, ot G04 South Main ave nue, died at his residence at 9.50 o'clock yesterday morning. Death was due to dropsy. Tho deceased was about 35 ycais of use, and was born at Merthyr Tydvtl, Glamorganshire, "Wales. He came to this country twenty-eight years ago and took his residence at Frostburg, Md staying there for fourteen years. He then cam to this city, residing In West Scranton since that time. Ho has been engaging in the hotel business for many years, this being his occupation at the tlmo of his demise. He sought relief by going to Atlantic City several weeks ago, but was compelled to return and take to his bed with the above results. De ceased was a member of Slosum lodge, No, 39G, Independent Order Odd Fel lows, nnd Hyde Park lodge, No. 306, Knights of Pythias. He Is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ann Stevens, and lne daughter, Miss Sarah Stevens. The fu neral services will occur Monday af ternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence. Interment will be mado at the Taylor cemetery.
