THE WORLD OF BUSINESS
STOCKS AND BONDS.
New York, May 10. The transactions
In stocks today reached the enormous
total of 689,000 shares, while the deal
ings In bonds footed up nearly $6,000,
000. This is (the largest day's business
in years. . The buying was of the beat
charaoter, London and the commission
houses being the largest purchasers.
Trading for outside account was on a
tremendous scale and in fact it was
this buying; that defeated the efforts of
the sold-out bulls to bring about re
action. The offerings of the profession
als were heavy and at times It looked
as if the top notch had been reached
but invariably freh buying orders
were put in and the market resumed its
upward course. The international
stocks displayed the greatest strength,
St. Paul, Louisville and Nashville,
Atchison advancing rapidly. The coal
ers, especially Reading and New Jer
sey, were in demand.
Near the close there was some good
buying of Louisville and Nashville, St.
Paul, Distillers and Reading, and in
consequence the closing was strong.
The range of toduy's prices for the nc
tlve stocks of the New York stock mar
ket aro given below. Tho quotations nro
