Attempt to Burn a House.
After midnight yesterday morning
Mrs. 'Patrick Gallagher, of Stafford
street, Mlnooka, was awakened by a
smothering sensation caused by smoke
permeating the air of the bedroom.
She arose quickly, raised the window
to let out the smoke and as she did, dis
covered that the house was on lire, The
blaze was located at the corner of the
house and a pile of combustible ma
terial was stacked against the side of
the building. Willi a few -minutes
more of a start the house would huve
been beyond saving, as there Is 110
j water near enough to be of uny ser
1 vice. The house Is not Insured and It
I represents the saving of a lifetime, it
was undoubtedly set on lire by some
person who took that means of venting
his fiendish spite, though there is no
reason known why such an act should
be perpetrated against ' these- Inoffen
sive people. The house was not dam
aged beyond the extent of a few dol
lars. 1'uncnil of .Mrs. Anna Howncs.
