John Mantnn, of Deacon street, was instantly killed at the Marvlne shaft yesterduy morning about 11 o'clock by a fall of rock. He had Just tired u blast and the roof appearing safe he went In and sounded it, when the whole mass fell on him. After midnight yesterday morning Mrs. 'Patrick Gallagher, of Stafford street, Mlnooka, was awakened by a smothering sensation caused by smoke permeating the air of the bedroom. She arose quickly, raised the window to let out the smoke and as she did, dis covered that the house was on lire, The blaze was located at the corner of the house and a pile of combustible ma terial was stacked against the side of the building.
