GOING OUT OF TOWN.
Largs Exodus of Idle Steel Workers to
Other Towns and Cities.
Tbe mantle of Idleness overspreads
the steel mills and the small army of
idle men are at a loss to know where to
tnrn for employment. The mines are
next door to being idle, and the only
recourse left seems to be this, leaving
town and seeking employment else
where. Moving are a familiar sight on the
streets of families leaving for other
points. Tbe ebesrless ontlook of a re
sumption of work necessitates this, or
else many cases of hanger and priva
tion would be chronicled. The new
street railway that is now beginning
on Hickory street has given employ
ment to over 100 men, bnt that number
is not a consequence compared to the
crowds thrown out of work. Tbe
mills will probably be closed
until after eleotion, tbe result of whioh
will deslde whether there is to be any
more tariff smashing. An official of
tbe Laokawanna Iron and Steel com
pany informed a Tbibcnb reporter that
tbe price of steel rails is at present ao
low that tbeir manufacture has been
carried on for a big period reosntly at a
