William Samuel, of this Side, was in jured yesterday morning while at work in the Oxford mines. Samnels is employed as a driver, and was knocked down by a runaway car. Largs Exodus of Idle Steel Workers to Other Towns and Cities. Tbe mantle of Idleness overspreads the steel mills and the small army of idle men are at a loss to know where to tnrn for employment. The mines are next door to being idle, and the only recourse left seems to be this, leaving town and seeking employment else where. Moving are a familiar sight on the streets of families leaving for other points. Tbe ebesrless ontlook of a re sumption of work necessitates this, or else many cases of hanger and priva tion would be chronicled. The new street railway that is now beginning on Hickory street has given employ ment to over 100 men, bnt that number is not a consequence compared to the crowds thrown out of work. Tbe mills will probably be closed until after eleotion, tbe result of whioh will deslde whether there is to be any more tariff smashing. Mr. Weldy put the motiey iu bis memorandom book and pluced it in bis inside coat pocket. When he unloaded bis potatoes be pulled rff bis coat and threw it over tbe seat not thinking about the money until after be bad unloaded and left the hotel. Some time after his attention was attracted to a paper iu the bottom of his wagon. In an instant he discovered it to be from bis memorandum book, which was missing. He went at once to the hotel where he had unloaded and fouud it in tbe road. One of tbe wheels bad passed over it and hid it from publio view. Mr. Weldy was tho happiest man in seventeen states.
