of Clyde Fitch, whose anthnrship of
"Beau Brummel," apart from his other

him enduring fam. Miss Henrietta

Rev. T. J. Collins delivers very in
teresting lectures every Friday evening
to the Bible class. Their studies are
in the first chapters of G metis, and
much ligut is shed by the speaker upon
tn abstruse and profound passages in
the sacred volume concerning the crea
tion of the world and of man. The

G. Partridge will address the annual

his present field and expects to take

Connecticut. This intelligence will be
received with regret by many of the
Methodist Episoopal clergy of this
vicinity, who have learnod to respect
aud admire the young pastor of Taylor
church. The people of his charge are
also grieved by his depsrtnre.

this week in the Cedar Avenue church
has been postponed until next Tuesday
evening.
The Ladies' Aid society of the Hamp
ton Street church is rapidly fulfilling
its pledge to the building fund. This,
however, does not exhaust all its
energy. It comprises many earnest
workers, who mako themselves u-
fnl in many ways. The society has
plonty of work on hand for many

The Epworth league of the Hampton
Street church is doing good work. It
has an alert committee planning work
for the winter months, nnd last even
ing the society met to discuss the life
mid work of a popular antbor. The
exercise was both interesting and pro
fitable.
Next Thursday evening a grand en
tertainment will bi held at the Park
Place chnrch. The programme is one
of the best, and among those who will
participate are eminent vocalists and
elocutionists. A quartette from the
Young Men's Christiau association will
sing.
Next Wednesday evening the Ep
worth leagne of the First G-rui ui
church will hold a reception at the par
sonnge. Toe members of the league
invite all the yonng people of the
chnrch and congregation to attend.

St. Mnry's hall has been thoroughly
renovated and placed in a safe coudi
tion. Some time ago it was pronounced
iinsufo for large meetings, and enter
tnininents were prohibited. Contrac
tor Callaghan has built a brick base
ment under the structure, the ex
pense incurred in making the change
is large, and as the hall is the prop
erty of the parish, an otfort will be
made to raise the necessary funds by
holding a musical nnd literary enter
tainment on Feb. 0. The talent en
gaged for the occasion is first class, and
augurs well for the entertainment.
The programme will be elaborate and
interesting.
Miss Mary McNulty. of Pittston, is
visiting Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lynott
of West Market street.

The funeral of Mrs. Kelly took place

cemetery. Mrs. Kelly was one of the
oldest and most retpeoted residents of
this vicinity and was geuerully ad
mired on account of her many good
qualities and Christian virtues.

slope beading, which caused thn water
and gas pipes to burst along Brick av
enue from Regan's premises to P. J.
Ruaue's. There was also a noticeable
settling along Oak street from O'Don
nell's to the creek. Brick avenue was
flooded all day yesterday.

DEATH OF A PIONEER PRINTER.

Last Sunday in Asheville, N. C. , A.
F. Randolph, a printer well known to
residents of the twin valleys, passed
uway after less than a week's wrestle
with pneumonia. Mr. Randolph was
born in New Jersey in 1M;I3. After
serving at the case in various places he
enlisted in the Union army, while he
was located at Pittston, served credit
ably and was for twenty yoars em
ployed as compoyitor iu the govern
ment printing ofll:e. Four years ago
he removed to Asheville, where his son,
W V. Randolph, Is part proprietor of
the Daily Citizen.
Mr. Randolph was a brother of John
Randolph, of South Hydo Park avenue,
aud had many friends in Scranton and
Pittston, who will deeply regret to
learu of bis death. The funeral ser
vices occurred in Asheville lust Tues
