A lantern social was held last even
ng in the Plymouth Congregational
church. The room was beatifully dec
orated with bunting and Japanese lan
terns while the members of classes
and 28, who hud the entertainment in
charge wore small lanterns in their
button boles. Hie auditorium was
packed and many people bad to stand.
Will Johns, the chairman announced
as the first number, a piano duet by
Miss Amy Howell and Lillian Reynolds
which was well played. Miss Josie
ittchards of the east side sang a solo
in goo.l style and was liberally ati
plnuded. A piano solo was rendered by
Prof. Ross. The Brownies gave an ex
cellent exhibition with Indian (dubs,
after which Prof. Weston, their in
structor, gave an exhibition with the
clubs. Miss Cora Griffin gave an ex
cellent recitation. A violin solo was
given by Miss Gtusie Long, The clos
ing number was a selection by a quar
tette. A social was then held nod was
thoroughly enjoyed by all. During the
social the Oct Chord Glee club sang
several selections.

The Second Act Enacted in Alderman

The second act in the domestic
drama in which Arthur and Joseph
Deacle, of Providence, are enraged to
star In, was enacted in Alderman Ful
ler s court yesterday afternoon.
A week ago yesterday while Arthur
Deacle was attempting to hold posses
sion of a house in Providence, which is

son drew a revolver and threatened to
blow Arthur Djacle's heart out.
Twenty or thirty witnesses were

The Month of December Yielded Fines
Amounting to $382.
The monthly report of Ouief of Police
Simpson tor the month of December
shows that the total number of arrests
was 138. Of that number forty-one
were for drnnkeaness, thirty-six for
drunk aud disorderly, thirty-two for
lightiug and tweuty-uiue for minor
offences.
Twenty-nine cbsss were committed
to the county jail; thirty-six were die
charged at the bearing, rour were
bound over to r.onrt. Of tho number
committed to the county jail twenty-
four were males and live urils. The

has been working short time of lute, is
being got in readiness to be operated
to its full capacity. Workmen are put
ting in overtime making the needed
repairs, and when these are completed
the mill will work in all its floors.
During the past tew months the mill
has bxon working very poorly and like
the other factories in th vicinity,
there were several weeks of idleness.
t present there are 120 hands em
ployed and next month the pay roll
will show 325 persons drawing wages.
In conversation yesterday, Mr. Sin
gleton said: "We are getting ready to
operate every department. As to the
prospects tor the year, I think they are
bright Tor steady employment. 1 do
not mean by that, that the year will be
as good for manufacturers as past
years have been. This is impossible
for tne reason that there is a fearful
depreciation in values, tho shrinkairo
being about 1. 75 cents a pound. Silk
is a luxury, however, and there Is a
continual demand for it. Dealers are
very conservative. Their orders are
very carefully placed. When they seud
fur so many pounds of silk they want
that amount aud do not care to have
even an additional ounce tacked ou.
These conditions are due to the dis
trust engendered by the prseut politi
cal status of affairs.

The funeral of Harry Dalton took
place yesterday afternoon and was

bearers were John Moffatt and Charles
