[From he Toilet, of Paris.l .Everything in Paris is subject to the caprices of fashion, even to the colors selected for the attire of the different seasons; and If the ohtvalrio senti ments. of the present day required each faithful knight to wear the colors of his lady, the changes would be; frequent, If not Irksome. Just now the black mid white predominate for all gala and public dress, to such an extent that almost every lady’s colors are those usually worn by every gentleman j mid there might be some difficulty In recognizing these, but that the old custom of wearing “her color” has been relinquished. The order of the day is simplicity united with good taste—a union pro ductive of the best results, even In these days of dressy ostentation, when, In spite or the gafidineas. Inherent In many of the artieles worn, a certain de gree of elegance Is obtainable In their disposition' and arrangement. > ' For Indoor wear the Zouave vest, In cashmere or In velvet, with the trimmings special thereto, is sail In considerable favor In Paris. Skirts are made on purpose to be worn-with these vests, as well as with the braided canezouß, In foulard or In cashmere.' We may here note that satins are quite a la mate again, even for hall costume, the turquoise blue, sale5 ale rose, and pearl gray colors being preferred. he gray especially, either In orape or satin, has been particularly remarked at the resent bal* it la. Court The taste for fur trimmings In rolls or narrow bands onpardessus has turned to acoountthemerits of the sable tufts. They are particularly charming on black velvet vestements, no matter of what form. Where the slab-trimming might be found too ex pensive, strips of martin lnr may be employed with advantage. In the way of jewelry, the crystal orna ments recently Introduced are much less admired for wear as earrings) but they are applied with ex cellent effect In the hair, or among foliage in fforal ornaments for the head. Evening Dangs.—Light gray moire antlze robe, provided with a passementerie ornament fttnged with light beads, so placed on the dress as to stimu late a tunlo. The bows down the front of the skirt, of the same material as the dress, are edged with two rows of beads. The corsage is ornamented in a Similar style. Gray velvet Sonnet tufanchon; a velvet band passing across the middle, attaches the laoe of the fanohon. * Ball Dress.—White silk robe, ornamented with foils of satin surmounting a flounce composed of upright satin rolls between two rows of white satin fluting, Over the robe Is a tunlo forming a Bort of; train, and surrounded with a flounce of plaits and boulllonnes very similar to the ornamentation of the lower part of the dress. The corsage is round, and the bertha ls trimmed to match the other por tions of this ball toilet, Pearl necklace and head dress of marguerites. Walking Danas.—Light brown silk robe, trimmed round the skirt with two wide bands or black velvet edged with small balls, and surmount, lug a plaited, flounce. The corsage habit, or goat corsage, Is also trimmed with velvet balls and pas sementerie round the edge of the back-turned tails. Green orape bonnet, without hamlet, but ornamen tal behind with a profusion of magenta velvet ribbons. THIS CITY. MIUTABT. THE DOUBLEDAY COURT MARTIAL. MISCELLANEOUS, ANOTHER OIL TERRITORY SPECULATION. Several months ago a number of gentlemen of Philadelphia, desiring to enter Into the lucrative profession of extracting petroleum from the Interior of Western Virginia, delegated one ol their number to explore the Kanawha valley, examine well the surface indications, and, in fact, to go Into a geolo gical Investigation or things generally in that re gion. Finally he selected a tract of territory that seemed to he In, or near, or somewhere about, the eternal centre.” He purchased many acres, at $6O each, so he reported to the com pany of gentlemen Interested. Final arrange ments were about being made to convey the lee simple to 660 acres for the sum of $28,000. The ne cessary preliminaries were started to issue stock to the extent of $160,000, so much being reserved as workin g capital. The company rubbed their hands to great glee, their hearts beat high with hope at the prospeot ol money slipping, like so much grease, into their oapaolons pookets. Before the affair was consummated it was ascertained that the delegate had purchased the tract of 580 aeres for the sum of $2,800, being only five dollars per aore. !t wl!1 be seen that he was about to realize the difference between $2,800 and $23,000 as the re sult of his first step in petroleum. But the aflatr leaked out, and a grand row was the result. More than enough money had been plaeed to his hands to pay fbr the ground at the original cost. Legal re medies have- been resorted to, but, so far, no publi city has been given to the affair. ARRIVED FROM THE FRONT.
