    RELIGIOUS INTELLIGENS.
Religious -statistics or the World.
The National dloacourc and Annual Record for 1864,
published by Cteurge W. (ibises, of this city, gives
us the world a. It ia in A nutshell. Among the
great amount of valuable statisties which it contains,

for example, who believe that the hillleniuM is to
be brought about by the conversion of the whole
human race thrOcah the preaching of the Gospel,
can see at a glance the Immense field of missionary
labor still remaining to be done from a single fact.
The total population of the fee grand divisions of
the world Is set down at 1,284.738600, of Which num
ber the total Christian population is estimated to be
261718,000, or little more than one-fourth of the
whole. The proportion of Protestants to Roman
Catholics in this estimate is about as 1 to 2, the
former numbering 95.916,000, sinf the latter 165,041,.
pm This relative proportion is approximately
maintained in America, Europe, Asia, and Africa;
-taiga in Australia and Polynesia, (the fifth grand
division,) it IS very strikingly reversed, the Roman
Catholics .there numbering but 280,000 to 1,100,000
Protestants.
It is evident from Mr. Childs , great book that our
own country takes down the world in the number
and variety of her religions denominations. Their
number and relative membership are estimated as
follows : African Methodist Episcopal Crunch, 26,
200 members. Baptists of all grades (embracing
Replier, Anti Mission, Seventli-Pay, Six-Principle,
Fre&Will, River Brethren, Winebrennariano, Ran

The statistics, as presented in detail; concerning
- the State of religion in evert nation throughout the
world, constitute an inexhaustible mine of comps
relive riemment, and the notes with which the ta
bles are interspersed contain much late and import
ant information. Prom the latter we extract the
facts that 10,100 Christians of Russian America be.
long to Greek Church ; that the Protestant po
pulation of South America, consists of a steadily
increasing number of congregations of German and
Swills immigrants in Brazil, of a colony of Walden•
Mans in Uruguay, of German, English, American,
and other foreign residents in all tne large towns of
South America, and a small number of congrega
trona of native converts to. Protestantism; that in
leg% a plan of union was agreed upon by the Gene
ral Assembly of the (Old School) Presbyterian
Church of the Confederate Sutea, and the United
Synod of the Presbyterian Church, and that it is
probable that most of the ocher Presbyterian bodies
of the slave States, in particular the Associated Re•
formed Synod of the South, and the Independent
Presbyterian Church, will join this union.
We hope at some future time to draw more largely
upon these ecclesiastical statistics for the infer
inatiOli of out readers, and we do so the more
willingly from the fact that the greatest possible
pains have been taken by the publisher to insure
accuracy.

THE Domnevc MARRETS.—The "panic"
which the money brokers speak of as having prevail

at the Stock Exchange, during the week, producing
a great fall in price., has communicated itself to the

themselves Knight to felicitate each other, for the re

fact, brought directly home to the farmers, that hair
compelled them to accept lower rates for their but
