A Chapter ok Hajcds. —We heard yesterday,
at the Aliembly Building*! a Lecture on the Hand'
by Dr. C. Heermac, Profeuor of Materia Memo* at
the Homoeopathic College In this city. The lecturer,
Alter ah owing how the hand proved man’s superior
lank, proceeded to describe the individual charac
teristics of the mind, as indicated by the hand.
The form oi the whole hand, of the fingers, of the
sails, the texture of the akin, or the muscular and
other developments of the organ, are all brought to
.bear ondhis important atudy, and concur in fixing
the types. Dr. H. thus showed three typee, corres
ponding to the three faculties of the mind: Judg
ment, Sensibility, and Imagination, models fully
illustrating these ideas were shown, and seme vary
useful hints were thrown out in order to make the
atudy applicable to the improvement of character
in youth.
The same leoturer will shortly speak on Educa
tion in a national paint of view.

No English poet surpasses him in knowledgeof nature,
and but few are his equal. Heie better than Gowper and
Thompson in theiT special walks of poetry, and the equal
of Wordsworth, the great high priest of nature.
CFrom the New York Tiraea.j
None of cur poets have shown a greater conscientious
ness or fidelity to man or nature The emotions which
he describes misht be sworn to before a court of philoso
phers,- the trees and flower* which he paints, and the
birds which flit among them, challenge the scrutiny of
the naturalist.
CFrom the Sound Table. ]
Tnronghont the volume are evidences of a serene and
joyous prime, which age cannot wither, nor the rust of
years corrode. The “Life that is,” “A Sick Bed,” ” The
New and theiOld,” ** The Cloud on the Way,” are all
recognitions of the season to which the singer and his
life-companions have arrived; but they breathe com
plaisance with the sweet law of Nature’s successions,
and are radiant with faith that looks behind the viel.
His philosophy, like his poetic art, resembles a tranquil
river still widening toward the close.
CFrom the Independent ]
With eye undimmed, with faculties unworn, with
heart still eager and hopeful, at a period of life when,

MEXICAN MUSTANG LINIMENT.
The parties in St. Louis and Cincinnati, who have been
counterfeiting the Mustang Liniment, under pretence of
proprietorship, have been thoroughly estopped by tbe
courts. To guard against further imposition. I have pro
cured from the United States Treasury a private steel
plate revenue stamp, which is placed over the top of
each bottle. Each stamp bears the/ac simile of my sig
nature, and Without which the article is a counterfeit,
dangerous, and worthless imitation. Examine every
bottle. This Liniment has been in use and growing in
favor for many years. There hardly a hamlet on
the habitable globe that does not contain evidence of ita
Wonderful effects. It U the beat emollient in the World.
With, its present improved Ingredients, its effects npon
